Activities at Strachan House Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at Strachan House Care Home
Bonfire Celebrations
Another great evening here at Strachan House. The hot chocolate, marshmallows and toffee apples were flowing. And of course there was a wee tipple here and there to take the chill of the evening air away.
Residents enjoyed a wonderful night of lights and colour and not a firework insight. For those a bit more adventurous we donned on our coats and blankets and enjoyed a open air firework show on our new projector. With music and bubbles filling our garden it was marvellous way to celebrate November 5th
Halloween preparations in full swing
Halloween preparations are in full swing as we get ready for our party on Monday 31st.
Our residents have been busy working on our Halloween festivities for the last couple of weeks and we are now in our final preparations of decorating to ensure everyone has a fang-tactic night.
With live music, fancy dress, games and plenty food and drink , why not come along and eat, drink and be scary.
Children don't forget your trick or treat bags and let us show you witch way to the treats we have instore!
Happy Diwali
Diwali is a major festival celebrated over five days in many parts of India by people of different faiths including many Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, Muslims and some Buddhists. It is sometimes referred to as "the festival of lights."
Diwali gives thanks to Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and good fortune. The celebrations is marked with offering of food and sweets aswell as festive lights and candles to chase away the darkness lighting the future forward.
Today we marked this celebration with the help of Diana one of our beautiful carers. She made delicious homemade samosas and sweets such as jaleb which all went down amazingly on our taster session. Our residents got to learn about the celebrations and culture aswell as learn how to put on and wear a sari.
Finally we finished off with Diana's Daughter creating some amazing mehndi artwork on some of our staff. What an amazingly beautiful and diverse cultures we have here at Strachan House. A big thankyou to everyone that was involved.
Pumpkin Scrumping Time
Residents, David and Joe took on the job of gathering the pumpkins for everyone at Strachan House.
What a wheelbarrow full of fun they had. We got them home safely despite them making a mad dash/rolling all over the minibus. The hilarity just didn't stop from the minute we left to the minute we arrive back. We think they picked the perfect pumpkins and we cant wait to see how our residents will transform these!
International Chef Day
We celebrated the day with learning the history of cornish pasty and the fine art of making one.
Mandy our Head of Activities being cornish gave a demonstration on how to make a proper cornish pasty. A true cornish art and well kept secret that has been passed down from generation to generation in her cornish ancestry.
We learnt about how the pasty came about and the fine art of crimping. Zoe our wonderful hostess was on hand to also demonstrate her talents and show us how to crimp. The best bit was of course the tasting after!
Happy Birthday Paddington Bear
Our residents enjoyed an afternoon with Cargilfield Nursery celebrating Paddington Bears Birthday.
With lots of Bear antic and a tea party to celebrate with the Bear himself, it was a fabulous afternoon. And of course it wouldn't be his birthday without marmalade sandwiches!
