Activities at Strachan House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Natasha Rubin

Activities Coordinator

G’day! My name is Natasha and I am the activities lead here at Strachan House. I am Australian born and bred, braving the dark and the cold here in Edinburgh to enjoy the beautiful nature and wonderful people! I have a background in team management and design. I have always loved working with people and have a strong interest in mental health and well-being, recently embarking on a psychology degree with an interest in specialising in Art Therapy. I am working with the team to create a vibrant, engaging and person-centred home.

Special Moments at Strachan House

Making wishes come true is a very privileged moment to share with our residents at Strachan House.

Today we did exactly that for our beautiful Lorraine whose passion of art is inspiring.

Her wish was to attend the Van Gogh experience and what an amazing morning she had.

We even got the posh concierge to take us into the Sheraton Hotel for a tour around.

It was a beautiful day!

World Chocolate Day

What a busy day we have had here at Strachan House. After enjoying a cruise along the canal on what can only be described as amazing it was back to enjoy learning about the history of chocolate.

What better what way than to enjoy a vast selection of chocolate from raw cocoa to the simple everyday bars we see today. Everyone agreed on the cocoa being the best.

Virtual event with Dr Tim Howard

Residents across our homes had a lovely time joining Dr Tim Howard, 4th generation GP, whose whole life has been about patient care, for an exciting virtual event to discuss his novel ‘Let’s Kill All The Lawyers’.

The novel is a medical fiction thriller that explores the impact of life and death events, mistakes and forgiveness, and the impact of law and justice on the day- to-day lives of ordinary people doing their best in difficult circumstances.

Residents had the chance to ask their own questions once the discussion was over and a great time was had by all.

Afternoon trip to Cramond

We had a great afternoon out to Cramond yesterday where we all enjoyed an ice cream and a mooch about!

Virtual singing session

Our home had a fantastic time with vocal coach Mark De-Lisser as he led an amazing virtual singing session for our residents to enjoy.

Our residents were able to learn different techniques as they sang the famous ‘I’m a Believer’ by The Monkees.

There were smiles and laugher all around. The session was such a success and was great for the mind, body and soul.

Visit from a furry friend!

We were delighted for the return of the wonderful Jocelyn who brought Finn our new #therapet visitor.

Finn was loved by all who met him, and Jocelyn was lucky to get back out without us managing to keep him for good.

Did you know that for some years now it has been recognised, more and more, that pets are good for us! Indeed, it has been scientifically proven that the mere action of stroking a dog, or cat, slows down the heartbeat, reduces blood pressure, and makes someone who has already suffered a heart attack much less likely to have another.
