Activities at Sutton Grange Care Home

Here at Sutton Grange we work really hard at providing a range of activities to suit our residents needs. We understand that everyone is different and we enjoy supporting our residents in whatever activities they would like to take part in. With a dedicated Activities co-ordinator and a friendly team of volunteers we are always busy with activities. We have several clubs including; gardening, film, craft, music, puzzles, and singing. We enjoy live music and entertainment, both in and outside of the home, and have regular outings on the minibus to local places of interest. Residents take part in animal assisted therapy, afternoon tea, arts and crafts classes, and visits from local community groups and school children. We believe it is important to provide stimulating, meaningful and relevant activities for our residents in order to make friends, and build a warm community to live.

Alison Wareing

Activities Assistant

Hi, I'm Alison. I am the Activities Assistant here at Sutton Grange, I joined the team in 2016.

I grew up in the local area and started my career working with animals.  After I had my daughter, and before I joined Barchester, I trained as a teacher and taught lipreading and communication.  The skills I learnt have been invaluable in my role today.

Now, I fill my days spending time with our wonderful Residents, helping them to live their lives to the fullest. I try to make a difference in someone’s life each day.

Life at Sutton Grange Care Home

Politics and Passion at Cliveden

We were treated to an amazing live virtual talk and a tour of Cliveden, hosted by the house and chapel guides from the National Trust Talks Service.

The volunteers kindly gave us a tour around the famous house taking an in-depth look at Cliveden’s many stories from its 350 year history, from devilish dukes to scandalous headlines and boundary-breaking garden designs to political notoriety.

Starting with the Duke of Buckingham who built the first house in 1666, our residents met the key owners who helped shape the house and its gardens including the Orkney, Sutherland and Astor families.

The talk was accompanied by an illustrated presentation which brought to life these individuals and showed how their influence at Cliveden still continues today.

Pancake Day

We had lots of fun for Pancake Day with some scrumptious pancakes, we had lots of pancake tossing and as you can see from the photo Richard our lovely pooch wouldn’t be out done and wanted to get involved.  We all had a fantastic day and everyone really enjoyed it especially the pancakes which were very tasty.

Coffee and word searches

We had a coffee morning alongside doing some word searches.  Our residents loved checking through them all trying to find each word attached to the various subjects and our residents said they really enjoyed the dog breeds word search.

NESCAFE virtual tour

We had a fabulous time joining NESCAFÉ’s virtual coffee experience.

We were able to look into how they sustainably farm their coffee beans, as well as, to have a virtual tour of one of their factories all from the comfort of our home.

To make things even more interesting, our residents had the chance to test their knowledge with an interactive quiz, and to the delight of all to taste the signature Sweet Cinnamon Shaken Iced Coffee cocktail.

Qi Gong

Recently we tried a Qi Gong session with our friends at Oomph on Demand. Our residents followed the Oomph instructor Jennie in the flowing movements of Qi Gong and learned a little about Qi Gong and how it was developed over time.

Coffee and film afternoon

Our residents had lots of fun chatting about our favourite musical, film and operas, so much so we decided we would watch one of them. The Wizard of Oz was the musical of choice, we also decided that we should watch an amateur production instead of the film, which was a great choice as we all loved it.
