Activities at Sutton Grange Care Home

Here at Sutton Grange we work really hard at providing a range of activities to suit our residents needs. We understand that everyone is different and we enjoy supporting our residents in whatever activities they would like to take part in. With a dedicated Activities co-ordinator and a friendly team of volunteers we are always busy with activities. We have several clubs including; gardening, film, craft, music, puzzles, and singing. We enjoy live music and entertainment, both in and outside of the home, and have regular outings on the minibus to local places of interest. Residents take part in animal assisted therapy, afternoon tea, arts and crafts classes, and visits from local community groups and school children. We believe it is important to provide stimulating, meaningful and relevant activities for our residents in order to make friends, and build a warm community to live.

Alison Wareing

Activities Assistant

Hi, I'm Alison. I am the Activities Assistant here at Sutton Grange, I joined the team in 2016.

I grew up in the local area and started my career working with animals.  After I had my daughter, and before I joined Barchester, I trained as a teacher and taught lipreading and communication.  The skills I learnt have been invaluable in my role today.

Now, I fill my days spending time with our wonderful Residents, helping them to live their lives to the fullest. I try to make a difference in someone’s life each day.

International Pirate Day

We had a wonderful time celebrating International Pirate Day. We had our photos taken which made us into pirates, we sang along to pirate sea shanties and held a pirate quiz and fact session and decorated some pirate shaped biscuits which went down a treat. We all had a great time engaging in our pirate activities.

Wine tasting virtual event

We had a lovely time joining Hospitality Manager, Christophe Noel and special guests Lee Isaacs DipWSET and Nick Parker from Unity Wines and Spirits – as they introduced us to wine tasting techniques, the history of wine and wine making, as well as consumer attitudes.

Our residents had the opportunity to try a variety of wines from sparkling and white to rose and red, alongside a selection of delicious treats.

It was a wonderful experience, enjoyed by all.

Last night of the Proms

We celebrated Last Night of the Proms virtually with members of English National Ballet’s Philharmonic Orchestra, led by Music Director Gavin Sutherland.

We listened and danced along as members of the orchestra took us on a magical, musical journey. English National Ballet Philharmonic is made up of many of the country’s top musicians, and boasts considerable experience in all forms of music-making. With insights and anecdotes into what it takes to conduct an orchestra for a world-class ballet company, this special concert got our feet tapping, arms waving and hearts singing!

It was a wonderful experience, enjoyed by all.

Resident meetings

At our monthly residents meetings our residents decide on what activities they would like, if they are happy with the activities we have all engaged with and have a chat to each of our heads of department and Benn our General Manager about any things they are happy/unhappy with. We also use the residents meetings to keep them informed about any changes that may be affecting the home. Everyone enjoys the meetings and throughout we enjoy refreshments.

Flower arranging club

Our residents love fresh flowers and like nothing more than arranging their own floral creations. The flowers were kindly donated by a relative and as you can see they all got fully involved and we had a really good time reminiscing about arranging flowers at home.

Fascinating insight to V&A Dundee

We had a lovely time joining Becca Clark and James Wylie – members of V&A Dundee’s exhibitions team – as they took us on a virtual tour of the museum’s incredible Scottish Design Galleries.

We were introduced to the wide range of unique objects at the galleries from architecture and engineering, jewellery and textiles to theatre and their fascinating stories.

And we were able to learn more about the importance of all objects in telling the rich and varied history of Scottish design.

It was a lovely talk, enjoyed by all.
