Activities at Sutton Grange Care Home
Here at Sutton Grange we work really hard at providing a range of activities to suit our residents needs. We understand that everyone is different and we enjoy supporting our residents in whatever activities they would like to take part in. With a dedicated Activities co-ordinator and a friendly team of volunteers we are always busy with activities. We have several clubs including; gardening, film, craft, music, puzzles, and singing. We enjoy live music and entertainment, both in and outside of the home, and have regular outings on the minibus to local places of interest. Residents take part in animal assisted therapy, afternoon tea, arts and crafts classes, and visits from local community groups and school children. We believe it is important to provide stimulating, meaningful and relevant activities for our residents in order to make friends, and build a warm community to live.
Alison Wareing
Hi, I'm Alison. I am the Activities Co-ordinator here at Sutton Grange, I joined the team in 2016.
I grew up in the local area and started my career working with animals. After I had my daughter, and before I joined Barchester, I trained as a teacher and taught lipreading and communication. The skills I learnt have been invaluable in my role today.
Now, I fill my days spending time with our wonderful Residents, helping them to live their lives to the fullest. I try to make a difference in someone’s life each day.

Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Sutton Grange Care Home
Mad Hatters Tea Party
Celebrations have been in full swing at Sutton Grange Care Home, as the home held a Mad Hatters Tea Party for their staff, residents and people from the community.
Mayor of Sefton Councillor Claire Louise Carragher attended the event and had a wonderful time chatting with the Mad Hatter and all of the residents at Sutton Grange.
The Mayor said “It was a pleasure to visit Sutton Grange and I had a wonderful time engaging with all the residents at Sutton Grange and the event was fantastic for everyone involved”
Staff and residents had a wonderful time at the tea party and they were accompanied of course by the Mad Hatter, Caterpillar, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. It also wouldn’t be complete without the Aces of Hearts and Spades.
V&A Dundee virtual talk on history of robots
We enjoyed a wonderful virtual introduction to the world of robots with V&A Dundee Curator, Kirsty Hassard.
Kirsty talked us through the history of robots and their early beginnings, the presentation traced the fascination of all things wired and wonderful and considered what the future might hold for our relationship with a multitude of mechanical machines.
It was absolutely thrilling to learn what robots can do now and what they might be able to do in the future.
Hidden jewels of Blenheim
We had a lovely time exploring the amazing gardens of Blenheim Palace through a virtual talk, hosted by the Historian - Antonia Keaney.
We enjoyed a virtual look at how the gardens at Blenheim have developed over the past 300 years - from the formality of Henry Wise through to the ‘natural’ landscape created by Capability Brown and beyond.
Everyone was very impressed by the many jewels hidden within the 150 acres of beautiful gardens.
A peek inside Dartmoor Zoo
We were able to virtually dive into the impressive wildlife of Dartmoor Zoo.
We explored its grounds and learnt about the unique history of the park from the zoo’s educational team. The culmination of the tour was the live tiger training demonstration, which was wonderful to see and enjoyed by all.
Our residents were delighted to see amazing photos and short videos of the animals and take a peek inside their home.
Weekly exercise group
Our weekly exercise sessions are a great way of keeping our body and mind fit and healthy. We enjoy nothing more than exercising to music then cooling down with either a cup of tea,coffee or a refreshing cold drink.
World Chocolate Day
Staff and residents at Barchester’s Sutton Grange care home in Banks had a fantastic time celebrating World Chocolate Day on July 7, surely one of the best days of the year!
Activities staff at Sutton Grange Rob and Alison arranged with local chocolatiers Chocolate Whirled in Southport, for a chocolate demonstration and talk about the history of chocolate and how Chocolate Whirled was started.
The residents got the opportunity to make some chocolate treats to take back to Sutton Grange including a full bar of chocolate and a chocolate lollypop.
