Activities at Sutton Grange Care Home
Here at Sutton Grange we work really hard at providing a range of activities to suit our residents needs. We understand that everyone is different and we enjoy supporting our residents in whatever activities they would like to take part in. With a dedicated Activities co-ordinator and a friendly team of volunteers we are always busy with activities. We have several clubs including; gardening, film, craft, music, puzzles, and singing. We enjoy live music and entertainment, both in and outside of the home, and have regular outings on the minibus to local places of interest. Residents take part in animal assisted therapy, afternoon tea, arts and crafts classes, and visits from local community groups and school children. We believe it is important to provide stimulating, meaningful and relevant activities for our residents in order to make friends, and build a warm community to live.
Alison Wareing
Hi, I'm Alison. I am the Activities Assistant here at Sutton Grange, I joined the team in 2016.
I grew up in the local area and started my career working with animals. After I had my daughter, and before I joined Barchester, I trained as a teacher and taught lipreading and communication. The skills I learnt have been invaluable in my role today.
Now, I fill my days spending time with our wonderful Residents, helping them to live their lives to the fullest. I try to make a difference in someone’s life each day.

Life at Sutton Grange Care Home
Barking up the right tree for National Dog Day
Staff, residents and their guests at Barchester’s Sutton Grange care home, in Banks, enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of doggy entertainment for National Dog Day.
Sutton Grange invited friends and relatives to bring along their dogs to be shown and judged by one of our residents Dorothy and the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Marilyn Westley and the Deputy Mayoress of West Lancashire. We had many catagories including best 6 legs, Most Handsome, Waggiest tail and the best in show.
General Manager, Bennett Mott said: “National Dog Day is an important event in Sutton Grange’s annual calendar and it gives us great pleasure in holding an event to celebrate those furry friends we hold so dear to our hearts.
Sutton Grange loves to be a hub of community engagement and we love providing fun events that not only our residents enjoy but that their friends and relatives can engage and be involved with. This has been a fantastic afternoon full of fun and laughter, but most of all, every one of the dogs were stars. The success of the afternoon showed we were barking up the right tree.”
Keeping fit together
Our residents enjoy getting involved with our exercise to music sessions. These are gentle stretching movements, including the use of ribbons and other lightweight objects. These sessions are fun, along to music and is designed to improve motor skills function.
Sea Life Trust virtual tour
We took a wonderful virtual trip to Iceland and visited the SEA LIFE Trust Beluga Whale Sanctuary to have an inside look into the daily care of their two resident beluga whales: Little White and Little Grey.
Our residents were introduced to the history of the Beluga Whale Sanctuary and learnt more about its mission to provide a more natural home for belugas in human care with a first-hand look at how the dedicated team are not only caring for the whales, but preparing for their future in the sea sanctuary!
It was an enjoyable event for everyone, learning more about the amazing beluga whales and how they are cared for at the sanctuary.
Games morning
We do love a game or two at Sutton Grange. Our residents loved engaging in the parachute and hoopla games which is not only fun but gets our competitive spirit flowing.
Cheese and wine afternoon
Our residents had a wonderful cheese and wine afternoon alongside watching our virtual photography talk. The residents really enjoyed sampling all the variety of different cheeses and crackers and said the virtual talk was very interesting.
World Photography Day
To mark World Photography Day, staff and residents at Sutton Grange were treated to a live streaming photography masterclass courtesy of top professional photographer, Damian Bailey.
A professional photographer since 2003, Damian has won Wedding Photographer of the Year and is listed as one of London’s top wedding photographers, having photographed over 700 weddings. Damian travels all over the country shooting weddings, events and families and loves to help people create memories by capturing wonderful images that will be passed on from generation to generation.
