Activities at Sutton Grange Care Home

Here at Sutton Grange we work really hard at providing a range of activities to suit our residents needs. We understand that everyone is different and we enjoy supporting our residents in whatever activities they would like to take part in. With a dedicated Activities co-ordinator and a friendly team of volunteers we are always busy with activities. We have several clubs including; gardening, film, craft, music, puzzles, and singing. We enjoy live music and entertainment, both in and outside of the home, and have regular outings on the minibus to local places of interest. Residents take part in animal assisted therapy, afternoon tea, arts and crafts classes, and visits from local community groups and school children. We believe it is important to provide stimulating, meaningful and relevant activities for our residents in order to make friends, and build a warm community to live.

Alison Wareing

Activities Co-Ordinator

Hi, I'm Alison.  I am the Activities Co-ordinator here at Sutton Grange, I joined the team in 2016.

I grew up in the local area and started my career working with animals.  After I had my daughter, and before I joined Barchester, I trained as a teacher and taught lipreading and communication.  The skills I learnt have been invaluable in my role today.

Now, I fill my days spending time with our wonderful Residents, helping them to live their lives to the fullest. I try to make a difference in someone’s life each day.

Life at Sutton Grange Care Home

Icelandic adventures for Residents

We took a wonderful virtual trip to Iceland’s Puffin Rescue Centre at the Beluga Whale Sanctuary.

We were able to virtually meet some of the rescued Atlantic Puffins and to learn interesting facts about their care and unique lives. We took a peek into their lives in the wild, the Puffling rescue program in the Westman Islands, and how SEA LIFE Trust Beluga Whale Sanctuary’s team takes care of these charismatic little birds each day.

It was a very exciting experience, enjoyed by all.

Blenheim Palace virtual talk

Our residents were treated to a virtual talk live from Blenheim Palace discussing the how the palace was involved in WW2.   The residents were intrigued on what things happened and how the palace functioned during this time.

We also afterwards had a reminiss on how Blackpool has changed over the years, we watched a mini documentary on Blackpool and the footage of Blackpool of yesteryear was amazing and brought back plenty of memories for our residents.

Quiz and exercise in the garden

At Sutton Grange we enjoy stimulating both body and mind, in these sessions we had a general knowledge quiz as we are preparing for our next zoom quiz with our sister homes, Crabwall Hall and Oak Grange.

Everyone enjoyed the quiz and there was lots of laughter to be heard at some of the obscurity of the question answers.

The afternoon consisted of a little bit of an exercise session. Gentle exercises to keep us all nice and supple.

We then rewarded our hard work with a coffee afternoon in the sun and chats about travel and sitting in the sun when we were younger.

Residents enjoy tour of Hereford Cathedral

We had a lovely time joining the team from Hereford Cathedral for an exciting virtual session.

We enjoyed a glimpse of this spectacular building and its treasures in a series of short pre-recorded videos. From the stunning gardens which lead down to the River Wye, to the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library.

It was wonderful to learn more about the history and beauty of Hereford Cathedral.

Carers week party

The residents had a wonderful time celebrating with our amazing staff team, we had an afternoon tea prepared and served by our kitchen staff and as you can see they all did an amazing job, ensuring that everyone was very well fed. We also had wonderful entertainment by the talented Rachel Rose who provided our music for the afternoon

Knowsley Safari Park

Here at Sutton Grange in Banks we were pleased to be able to dive into the wild safari life of Knowsley Safari and to enjoy an amazing live stream tour of the park’s grounds.

Our residents were smiling and laughing as they got up close and personal with some of the safari’s most popular animals, including giraffes and meerkats and much more!

We had a wonderful time learning more about the animals and enjoying some live feeding demonstrations.
