Activities at Sycamore Grove Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Lynette Allen

Activities lead and Speak up Champion

I first worked in the care sector in 2016. I have since gained a wealth of experience in dedicated dementia and residential activities, where I was an Activities Coordinator.

The largest and best part of my role was to ensure my residents were engaged in meaningful activities on a daily basis. I do this by taking into account their life history, their interests, likes and dislikes in order to promote their wellbeing currently and for the future. Liaising with family, friends and members of the community is also part of my role and it offers continuity to the lives of our residents. I love giving people a purpose and enabling our residents to do as much as possible of the things they love to do.

I cannot wait to welcome our residents into their wonderful new home and help to bring smiles, joy and laughter to each day.

Life at Sycamore Grove Care Home

Sycamore Grove Care Home hosts 5* Three Course Meal for Polegate Residents Association

Sycamore Grove Care Home was delighted to host a 5*, three course meal for the Polegate Residents Association on Thursday, 8th June. The event was part of the homes "Don't Dine Alone" initiative, which aims to provide companionship and support for people who are lonely in our community.

The meal was prepared by Sycamore Grove's very own award-winning chef, and it was absolutely delicious! The guests enjoyed a variety of dishes, including a starter of fresh soup, a main course of chicken with all the trimmings, and dessert.

The guests also had a chance to socialize and interact with each other. They shared stories, laughed, and enjoyed each other's company. The event was a huge success, and it showed how important it is to reach out to those who are lonely in our community.

We would like to thank the Polegate Residents’ Association for joining us to host this event. We are proud to be a part of this initiative, and we look forward to working with the Polegate residents association again in the future.

If you are feeling lonely, please do not hesitate to reach out to Sycamore Grove in Stone Cross, and we will see where we can help you or your loved ones. We can provide you with support and companionship, and they can help you connect with other people in our community.

The Tour de Barchester visited Sycamore Grove

The Tour de Barchester visited Sycamore Grove this morning for the 4th stage of the race! Riders set off from our home at 9am for a 72-mile trip to Purley. The total trip is 275 miles over 4 days.

We were so excited to see the riders come through our town. The atmosphere was electric, and everyone was cheering them on and we had special visitors from Bluebell Barn Nursery, the Polegate Town Council with Mayor and Deputy Mayor! It was a great day for cycling, and we're so glad that the Tour de Barchester came to Sycamore Grove.

We're all rooting for them, and we know they'll do great. If you're in the area, be sure to come out and cheer on the riders!

Lynette our Gets Margaret and Patricia Scrabble-Happy!

Lynette the activities coordinator is always looking for new ways to keep our residents entertained. Today she decided to organise a game of Scrabble for Margaret and Patricia. The three ladies had a blast competing against each other, and they even learned a few new words along the way!

"I love playing Scrabble," said Margaret. "It's a great way to keep my mind sharp."

"Me too," agreed Patricia. "And it's even more fun when I get to play with my friends."

Daisy the tortoise visits our residents

Our residents were delighted to have a special visitor today - Daisy the tortoise! Daisy is Laura's senior carer's tortoise, and she brought her in to share with our residents.

Daisy is a very friendly tortoise, and she loved exploring the care home. She even made some new friends! Peter and Patricia both told us that they had had tortoises before, and Patricia even told us about her tortoise, which they painted a Union Jack painted on its shell!

We're so grateful to Laura for bringing Daisy in to visit us. It was a real treat for our residents, and it brought back some happy memories for them.

If you're ever looking for a way to brighten up your day, I highly recommend visiting a tortoise! They're such gentle creatures, and they always seem to put a smile on people's faces.
