Activities at Sycamore Grove Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Lynette Allen
I first worked in the care sector in 2016. I have since gained a wealth of experience in dedicated dementia and residential activities, where I was an Activities Coordinator.
The largest and best part of my role was to ensure my residents were engaged in meaningful activities on a daily basis. I do this by taking into account their life history, their interests, likes and dislikes in order to promote their wellbeing currently and for the future. Liaising with family, friends and members of the community is also part of my role and it offers continuity to the lives of our residents. I love giving people a purpose and enabling our residents to do as much as possible of the things they love to do.
I cannot wait to welcome our residents into their wonderful new home and help to bring smiles, joy and laughter to each day.

Life at Sycamore Grove Care Home
Celebrating Ascot Ladies Day
The ladies of Sycamore Grove Care Home had a blast celebrating Ascot Ladies Day in our cinema room!
We had a wonderful time watching the races, cheering on our favorites, and enjoying some delicious snacks. We even had a 150-1 winner from Mrs. P!
A big thank you to everyone who helped make this day so special. We had so much fun, and we're already looking forward to next year's Ascot Ladies Day!
Intergenerational Opera Practice
Sycamore Grove Care Home Residents Visit Hazel Lodge Care Home for Intergenerational Opera Practice
The residents of Sycamore Grove Care Home had a wonderful time visiting their sister home, Hazel Lodge Care Home in Battle, yesterday to do an intergenerational Channel Opera practice. The two groups of residents got together to practice their parts for their upcoming show, an operatic rendition of Hansel and Gretel.
The residents were all very excited to be working together, and they quickly bonded over their shared love of music. They worked hard on their parts, and by the end of the day, they were all singing in perfect harmony.
The staff at both care homes were also very excited about the project. They believe that intergenerational activities like this are a great way to bring people together and create lasting memories.
The show will take place in 4 weeks time, and we are all looking forward to seeing it. We know that it will be a truly magical performance.
Italian Night
Last night was pizza night at Sycamore Grove Care Home, all handmade by our residents! They were so excited to have pizza for dinner tonight. We had pepperoni, sausage, and veggie pizzas on the menu, they were baked in our kitchen and enjoyed by all!
Residents Enjoy Watercolour Afternoon
Sycamore Grove Residents Enjoy Watercolour Afternoon with residents from Hazel Lodge Care Home
Our residents at Sycamore Grove Care Home had a fun and creative afternoon of watercolour painting today! They enjoyed painting a variety of subjects, including butterflies, dragonflies, and flowers. The residents were all very talented, and their paintings turned out beautifully.
We are so grateful to our Activities Coordinator's Lynette from Sycamore Grove and Sonia from Hazel Lodge, who organised this event. She helped the residents to relax and express themselves creatively. We believe that art therapy is a valuable tool for promoting mental and emotional health, and we are so glad that our residents were able to participate in this activity.
Local MP visits care home for Carer's Week
We were delighted to host Huw Merriman MP , Frances McKenna, and Carole Gregory from Care for the Carers this week. They visited our wonderful home in Stone Cross to discuss Volunteers Week this week and Carers Week starting Monday.
We were able to show them all the amazing work that our volunteers do and how they make a real difference to the lives of our residents. We also discussed the challenges that carers face and how we can all play a role in supporting them.
We would like to thank Huw, Frances, and Carole for taking the time to visit us and for their support of our work.
Barchester Healthcare Celebrates Care Teams
We are so grateful to our care teams for all their hard work and dedication. To show our appreciation, we have given all our carers across our business some cheeky treats and chocolates.
We know that caring for our residents is a demanding job, but it is also incredibly rewarding. Our carers make a real difference to the lives of our residents, and we are so proud of everything they do.
Thank you for all that you do. We appreciate you!
