Activities at Tennyson Wharf Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Rebecca Harrowing
Hi my name is Rebecca, I started working at Tennyson Wharf in July 2024.
Previous to starting at Tennyson Wharf I have lived in many countries and worked as a supply teacher and administrator in Bahrain in the Middle East - I have also worked in scouting programme groups in both the USA and UK.
Whilst I have worked with children for a lot of my life, working with the elderly is always been something I have been passionate about. I believe that everybody has a story to tell and our residents life stories all add value to Tennyson Wharf.
Outside of work I enjoy walking, gardening and going to the cinema.

Life at Tennyson Wharf Care Home
Wash Day Reminiscence
A lady visited the home dressed in ‘years ago’ wash day clothes to reminisce with residents about how they used to wash clothes before the invention of the washing machine. She brought with her a dolly tub, and mangle, and all the old things residents would have seen and possibly used long ago to wash clothing. They all had a go at using the equipment and thoroughly enjoyed themselves - particularly those living on Memory Lane.
Birthday Celebrations
We helped Joyce celebrate her 80th birthday with a visit from the band, Over The Hill. Joyce’s family and friends kindly paid for the band and invited everyone to enjoy the show. We then sang Happy Birthday and shared some birthday cake.
A Thoughtful Gift
A resident took the time to knit our Head Chef a lovely hat to heep her warm whilst she runs - how thoughtful!
Employee of the Month - March
Congratulations to our Host/Kitchen Assstant, Mark, who was named Employee of the Month for March here at Tennyson Wharf. Sometimes, David, steps in as the Assistant Chef whenever we need him - and we are most grateful!
Employee of the Month - February
Congratulations to Nurse, Sadie, who was named Employee of the Month for February here at Tennyson Wharf.
Pindars Healthcare Design Awards
We have fought off strong competition to reach the short list for the Pinders’ Design Awards 2017.
Judges from Pinders visited our home when we were given the opportunity to ‘bring our drawings to life’ and explain our design more fully. Consideration was given to the overall design of our building, its façade, and how each separate area worked to the best advantage of residents, family, friends, staff and visitors.
We were delighted to accept a cheque for £500, which we have donated to Barchester's Charitable Foundation, and a trophy in recognition of our achievement thus far.
We are now very much looking forward to the awards ceremony being held in London on 15th March 2017, when the winner will be announced.
