Activities at The Cedars Bourne Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Life at The Cedars Bourne Care Home

Floral Masterclass

Across our homes we had a fantastic time joining, Kathryn Delve, Master Florist, for a Valentine’s-inspired live virtual flower arranging demonstration. Kathryn shared brilliant and creative ways to decorate our tables with beautiful flowers that are sure to make your heart swoon!

Those participating in this virtual event put their skills to the test and followed along with some amazing creations of their own.  Residents truly enjoyed the experience.

Home hosts Valentines Concert

The Cedars Care Home in Bourne, held a love themed Musical Extravaganza and Chocolate fountain with a delicious array of goodies to dip, to kick off our St Valentine’s Day Celebrations.

Staff and residents celebrated the day of love by hosting a concert by London Guildhall trained Classical Singer Gabriella Pineda- Rodrigues, who sang a range of songs, from Dolly Parton and Motown, ‘On My Own’ from Les Miserables; Nessun Dorma and Mario Lanza; in English, Italian, German and Latin. The highlight of the event was ‘Ave Maria’, sang in German for resident Karoline Corbett, who gave her an enthusiastic round-of-applause after hearing lyrics in her native language.

Karaoke afternoon

Staff, residents, and relatives came together at The Cedars to enjoy a fun karaoke sing a long that was held at the home on 20th January, 2024. The Cedars hosted the event in their beautiful garden lounge and were joined by local Steve Francis, an extraordinary keboardist, who brought a long his karaoke equipment for us to have some fun, try something new and have a go!

Steve arrived at the Cedars and made everyone feel at ease and it wasn’t long before the inhibitions relaxed and we were sharing the microphones around and  having fun together. Steve played the great tunes we all love, “Roll out the barrel”, “Underneath the Arches” and “On mothers Kelly doorstep” to name but a few.

New Year's Eve celebrations

"We'll drink a cup of kindness yet, For the sake of auld lang syne"

Eve and Andy of Stonestreet Sounds gave us the most magical afternoon to see in the New Year. It was nostalgic, thought provoking, interactive and engaging. A myriad of songs accompanied beautiful scenes of the local area and themes of times gone by, which was enjoyed by residents, staff and visitors alike. Residents were thrilled to see their name come up on the screen accompanied by their own musical requests. Seeing staff and residents come together to celebrate was the perfect way to see in 2024.

Metal Detection Dogs

Across our services residents had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Emilia from Medical Detection Dogs.

Emilia took us on a journey to discover how the organisation began training dogs to support people with complex health conditions, saving their lives on a daily basis.

Using their amazing sense of smell, these dogs can identify odour changes emitted prior an episode and alert the person to take preventative action.

We were introduced to the wonderful dogs and the science behind the sniff.  It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our canine-loving residents.

Home welcome back Busy Bees Nursery

The Cedars Care Home, in Bourne were thrilled to welcome back the children from Busy Bees Nursery and Preschool for their weekly intergenerational playgroup. This group meets every Wednesday afternoon, and allows residents and children aged 2-5 to enjoy music, games and activities together at the home.

Resident and ex-teacher Janet Racklyeft ran the session, with a mix of parachute games followed by a sing-a-long of popular nursery rhymes. The children really enjoyed themselves, and behaved perfectly. They asked if Janet would like to go back to the nursery with them, but she politely declined!
