Activities at The Cedars Bourne Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Helen Hudson

Activities Coordinator

Hello. I’m Helen, the Activities Coordinator at The Cedars. I joined the team in 2021 and I have lots of skills that I can use to create an interesting and varied programme of activities, events and celebrations for residents to enjoy. I am a qualified holistic therapist and offer an holistic approach to activities in the home, I love creating new activities that our residents enjoy, taking residents out on day trips and promoting wellbeing through lots of different activities. When I am not at work I love playing my clarinet, crocheting and art - I use all of these in my role.

Life at The Cedars Bourne Care Home

Barchester’s Big Quiz of the year!

All over the country our care homes and hospitals linked up for Barchester’s Big Quiz of the year!

Residents tested their knowledge with a variety of questions, from historical humdingers and musical musings to pictorial puzzlers and connective conundrums.

Everyone who participated had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

Minibus Trip to Waterside

Our final minibus trip of the year took us back to the winter wonderland at Waterside Garden Centre. Audrey, Dorothy and Peggy had a magical time exploring the stunning displays and doing a bit of last minute Christmas shopping before enjoying a festive treat in the cafe. Thank you again to our amazing volunteer Sandra Ridley for helping us on another fun day out.

Paint-a-Pot

Paint-a-Pot place visited us twice this month for a two part creative activity. Residents each had the opportunity to make three clay hanging decorations for their rooms- an angel, a Christmas tree and a Christmas gnome. These were taken to be fired before our residents painted them. Derek and Chris at Paint A Pot Place made these sensory sessions really fun, and we are so proud of what we have made!

Christmas Fete

Thank you for supporting our Annual Christmas Fete this year; and congratulations to all our raffle winners!

We had a wonderful time on fete day. There were artisan craft stalls, and plants and cakes for sale; as well as a residents fund bric- a- brac stall and raffle. Volunteers Nigel and Christine had fun on the hot drink and mince pie stand, where the mulled wine was enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.

10-year old volunteer Thomas was a big hit, as he made a moving target for our reindeer hoopla game. It was harder than it looked, although everyone enjoyed having a go!

We would all like to say a huge thank you to everyone who either manned a stall, donated a raffle prize or who came along to support the home.  There was a fantastic atmosphere and in total the home raised over £350 for our residents fund, which is brilliant.

'Tis the season to be jolly

Barchester’s Cedars care home, in Bourne got in the Christmas spirit throwing their annual Residents Christmas Party on Wednesday, before being visited by Darwin the Therapy Horse on Friday.

On Wednesday, the Cedars Christmas party was in full swing with live music from local entertainer Alan Jackson, who took us on a musical journey through songs form Elvis’ ‘Blue Christmas’ to carols, with the soulful ‘O Holy Night’ bringing tears to the watchers eyes. Alan then very kindly visited Frank Sinatra superfan Mildred in her room; and serenaded her with ‘Come Fly with Me’ and ‘Fly Me to the Moon’- a very special moment indeed.

Meet The Reindeers

Across our homes we got into the Christmas spirit of things by joining a festive live virtual experience, led by Des and Kelly from Performing Pets.

Our residents were thrilled to meet the charming furry friends and get up close and personal with the reindeers.  We certainly learnt some interesting facts about the animals and had a fantastic time.
