Activities at The Cedars Bourne Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Hello. I’m Helen, the Activities Coordinator at The Cedars. Trip to Ferry Meadows, Peterborough

Today we went on an exciting trip to explore our local country park at Ferry Meadows in Peterborough.

Our residents had a fabulous time travelling on the home’s minibus to visit the park. They’ve enjoyed a day full of tranquillity and walks, including by a scrumptious picnic made by home chef Richard Parrott; as well as ice creams from the cafe.

We were able to explore the local wildlife, which everyone found fascinating.

A lovely day was had by all.

Darwin the therapy horse pays a visit

The Cedars Care Home in Bourne was thrilled to receive a visit from therapy horse Darwin and his owner Brenda from Comfort Horse Therapy on Monday. The miniature horse, just 34 inches tall, is a falabella who visited a group in the lounge before travelling the home to visit residents in their rooms. He even went up in the lift!

Residents were able to talk to, stroke and groom the horse, who was on his best behaviour throughout the 90 minute visit. He even wore beautiful shoes to keep the floor clean.

Aloha

What a SPLASH!!!!   What a welcome we received from Kirsty and her team at the One Stop Hawaiian Fun Day. We played the tombola and had a great time with the water bombs in "splash the manager"... what a good sport she was! It was good to be such a part of the community in helping raise funds for Alzheimers, something dear to our hearts here at Barchester. And when Anne met a fellow colleague from our sister home Woodgrange, who had cared for Anne’s sister, it was another special moment. Thank you.

A visit from Paint-a-Pot

Residents really enjoyed their visit from Paint a Pot Place this month. Derek and his granddaughter were lovely, and helped our residents paint some beautiful treasures that they can keep forever. The residents enjoyed themselves so much that we have already booked the next session- designing and making clay decorations for Christmas.

Thank you to Derek and the wonderful team at Paint a Pot Place for being such good company and we are really looking forward to seeing the finished products!

Armchair travels to India

Our Indian Day was a great success. Our wonderful chef, Richard, created an exquisite Indian menu for us all to sample, with samosa's, mint raita, and a marsala curry with rice. Our colleague, Sam, kindly brought in the most beautiful golden sari, so we could learn how to pleat and wear it. We even danced, "Bollywood" style, learning how to create all the beautifully expressive hand movements via our Online Partner Oomph on Demand. We then played "Gutte", an Indian version of 5 stones. We all agreed how wonderful it was to experience a different culture and learn so much about another country.
