Activities at The Cedars Bourne Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Helen Hudson
Hello. I’m Helen, the Activities Coordinator at The Cedars. I joined the team in 2021 and I have lots of skills that I can use to create an interesting and varied programme of activities, events and celebrations for residents to enjoy. I am a qualified holistic therapist and offer an holistic approach to activities in the home, I love creating new activities that our residents enjoy, taking residents out on day trips and promoting wellbeing through lots of different activities. When I am not at work I love playing my clarinet, crocheting and art - I use all of these in my role.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at The Cedars Bourne Care Home

St Patrick's Day
There was mischief and trickery all around The Cedars this month as we celebrated St Patrick's Day this month. We enjoyed playing our Irish themed Pictionary game, with a delicious Irish coffee; before Ellen showed us her Irish dancing. She then recited the poem "the wearing of the green". Thank you Ellen for sharing your culture and knowledge with us all.

London Ladies
As part of our International Women’s Day celebrations, Residents from across our services were thrilled to join tour guide, Mandy Morrow, for an exciting talk about some Legendary London Ladies.
Mandy shared the fascinating stories of eight ladies with us, from the one of the richest heiresses in the world to the original 'Roaring Girl'.
Everyone who participated truly enjoyed the experience and were delighted to take a walk down memory lane.

Eyes down for bingo bonzana
Across the country our homes and hospitals came together to find out which care home or hospital had the best Bingo players as we teamed up for Barchester’s Bingo Bonanza.
Residents were treated to some exciting virtual games of Bingo as part of Barchester’ very own game show series.
Everyone who participate had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

Resident celebrates 10-years with surprise party
The Cedars has thrown a surprise party for resident Dorothy Inkley to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of her joining the Cedars community. Staff, residents and Dorothy’s family came together to commemorate this special occasion with a performance from Dorothy’s Favourite singer, Alan Jackson, who sang a range of songs including For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow, Fly Me to the Moon and King of the Road. Staff decorated the home in a Hollywood theme and made sure that Dorothy was treated as a VIP for the day.

Pancake Day
We had some 'flipping' fun this month as we tried our hand at pancake tossing in the dining room. Residents and Staff tried to flip the pancake the most times in a row with no break. The competition was won by carer Johnathan, who flipped 8 times in quick succession!

Valentine’s Day Flower Arranging
To embrace the spirit of love, we joined Kathryn Delve for an exciting Barchester Live Virtual Event: a flower arranging demonstration. Master Florist Kathryn demonstrated how to make some lovely table decorations for Valentine’s Day. We then had a go at creating our own stunning displays. It was wonderful!
