Activities at The Cedars Bourne Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Helen Hudson

Activities Coordinator

Hello. I’m Helen, the Activities Coordinator at The Cedars. I joined the team in 2021 and I have lots of skills that I can use to create an interesting and varied programme of activities, events and celebrations for residents to enjoy. I am a qualified holistic therapist and offer an holistic approach to activities in the home, I love creating new activities that our residents enjoy, taking residents out on day trips and promoting wellbeing through lots of different activities. When I am not at work I love playing my clarinet, crocheting and art - I use all of these in my role.

Singing with Wim

We all love a sing- a- long! Today we sang, danced and clapped along to our favourite songs with Oomph on Demand's Sing with Wim. Residents were entertained with songs from 'Come Fly with Me' and 'Country Roads' to 'You are my Sunshine' and 'We'll meet Again'. Our highlight was Rob singing along to 'Bring Me Sunshine'. He has a great singing voice!

We are lucky to have access to a full program of activities and entertainment for our residents, both those in their rooms and those in the lounge, through our online partner Oomph on Demand. The exercise programmes, documentaries and art classes are really fun; but we all love the sing-a-long the best!

Minibus Trip to Peterborough Cathedral

We had so much fun travelling in our minibus to visit Peterborough Cathedral and city centre. Sheila, Margery and Anne truly admired the stunning architecture and shared lovely stories and memories with each other. The day was completed with a delicious cream tea in the Cathedral Beckett Cafe.

We would like to say a huge thank you to volunteer Sandra for helping us with this trip, and for the wonderful welcome we received at the Cathedral (including a mini tour of some of the more unusual parts of the building).

Residents lend their ears to live performance

Residents and guests at The Cedars Care Home in Bourne enjoyed an afternoon live music that took place at the home. Local singer Nick Glover performed a selection of classic hits including ‘Sweet Caroline’, ‘Love is in the Air’ and ‘Delilah’.

Residents joined in with the singing, and clapped and danced along as he performed. The hospitality team at the home also provided a spread of sweet treats for guests to enjoy during the show.

Mad Hatters Tea Party

Staff and residents at The Cedars Care Home in Bourne held a charity coffee morning and bake sale on 29th September to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.  Having a coffee morning is the perfect chance to catch up over a cuppa and a slice of something delicious for a great cause. The money raised helps everyone with cancer to live life as fully as they can.

Residents enjoyed spending time with friends and relatives, and members of the local community.  Head chef, Richard Parrott, had baked lots of lovely cakes, biscuits and pastries for everyone to sample, as well as a delicious cake for ‘Guess the Weight of the Cake’.  Staff dressed up as characters from Lewis Carroll’s classic, Alice‘s Adventures in Wonderland and decorated for a day of fun and whimsy.

Platinum Anniversary

Marjorie and Peter celebrated their Platinum anniversary this month. Margery said that the key to their happy marriage is that Peter is her ‘best friend’. It is such an inspiration and we all loved celebrating this momentous occasion with you and your wonderful daughter.

Long Service Award

Today, two of our wonderful carers have received their prestigious Long Service Awards in celebration of working here for many years.

Dixie Woods, now Senior Care Assistant, has celebrated her 20 year long career here; and carer Jane Parry received her 15 year Long Service award.  They have both worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that our residents needs have been met over the years.

Adele Keenan, Employee Services Director at Barchester said: “I’m always pleased to hear stories about the long service of Barchester staff and am delighted that Dixie and Jane have achieved these milestones. It is dedication like this that ensures our residents are provided with a happy place to live.”

Rebecca Aldred, Senior General Manager said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating both a 15 and 20 year long service award with Jane and Dixie. They have demonstrated their dedication and loyalty to this home and its residents year after year. I speak for all of us here at The Cedars when I say that I’m looking forward to many more years of working with them both!”
