Activities at The Cedars Bourne Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Helen Hudson
Hello. I’m Helen, the Activities Coordinator at The Cedars. I joined the team in 2021 and I have lots of skills that I can use to create an interesting and varied programme of activities, events and celebrations for residents to enjoy. I am a qualified holistic therapist and offer an holistic approach to activities in the home, I love creating new activities that our residents enjoy, taking residents out on day trips and promoting wellbeing through lots of different activities. When I am not at work I love playing my clarinet, crocheting and art - I use all of these in my role.

Life at The Cedars Bourne Care Home
St. Patrick's Day
Happy St Patrick's Day! We had so much today finding flowers in the sunshine, before celebrating St Patrick's Day in style. Residents were given a themed activity book with information about the history of the day, before being treated to an afternoon of potato bowling and Rainbow Sparkle Smoothies. We were also treated to a live concert from our online partner Oomph and vintage singer Alan. It was so much fun!
Mothers Day
Today our home was beautifully decorated with fresh flowers and balloons in recognition of Mother’s Day and all the mothers in our home.
Over the weekend, we arranged individual flower deliveries for all of our female residents and a bookable afternoon cream tea with prosecco. We enjoyed discussions about our own families and the role of motherhood, whilst taking advantage of the weather to make a start on our new sensory garden area.
There were smiles all around the home.
Stonestreet Sounds
Today we had a wonderful afternoon of nostalgia and musical reminiscence from the wonderful duo at Stonestreet Sounds; who entertained us with a nostalgic look at South Kesteven through photos and video. The beautiful images were projected onto a 5 foot screen; and were accompanied by a selection of music from the 20th century, including "The White Cliffs of Dover", "Singin' in the Rain" and "You are My Sunshine". As a finale, residents were then given the opportunity to request a song, which was displayed on the large screen along with their names.
Residents said they really enjoyed the chance to reminisce. John Clingo said it 'brings back memories ' and Brian Hicks said it 'was wonderful'
Sensory story telling
Aross our services, our residents were treated to a special virtual sensory storytelling session. Together with Art Historian Jon Sleigh and the Historic Royal Palaces community team, we explored several royal palaces through the theme of food, dining and celebration!
We enjoyed a fantastic taste-a-long experience from the comfort of our home, from Tudor treats to Stuart sweets. A lovely time was had by all.
Employee Appreciation Day
Staff at The Cedars Care Home, in Bourne were treated to a spa afternoon in celebration of Employee Appreciation Day. Residents at the home wished to do something for the staff who take such great care of them, and as Jo Kay said, ‘they come in at eight o’clock with a smile on their face, and they leave at eight o’clock still smiling. It’s remarkable. You are all brilliant".
Staff enjoyed a slice of chocolate cake and non-alcoholic bubbly, before being presented with a special gift from the residents, a framed and signed thank you from all of the current residents in the home. Presented by Dorothy Payne, she said ‘thank you all for everything you do’, and led the residents in a round of applause for the gathered team members. Then each staff member was given the opportunity for a mini aromatherapy hand massage or mini Indian head massage from the home’s in house holistic therapist.
Fresh Air Friday
We host weekly Fresh Air Friday, where our residents can enjoy a trip into town, a walk to the church or a stroll through our beautiful historical garden. Mary, Janet and Barbara took a wonderful winter walk into town this month, where we popped into the 'Don't Lose Hope' Cafe for a drink and a slice of homemade cake. It was lovely!
