Activities at The Cedars Bourne Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Helen Hudson
Hello. I’m Helen, the Activities Coordinator at The Cedars. I joined the team in 2021 and I have lots of skills that I can use to create an interesting and varied programme of activities, events and celebrations for residents to enjoy. I am a qualified holistic therapist and offer an holistic approach to activities in the home, I love creating new activities that our residents enjoy, taking residents out on day trips and promoting wellbeing through lots of different activities. When I am not at work I love playing my clarinet, crocheting and art - I use all of these in my role.

Life at The Cedars Bourne Care Home
Summer Fete brings community together
Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together at The Cedars Care Home to enjoy a Summer Fete that was held in the home’s grounds on 24th June.
The Cedars hosted a variety of activities throughout the day, including a tombola stall, raffle, traditional games such as tin can alley and a paddling pool; as well as the main event- the annual duck races on the river; which were enjoyed by everyone who came to the event.
Beach Day
Beach Day was a huge success today. The BBQ was delicious, with home chef Ary creating a range of wonderful salads and a choice of burgers, hotdogs, salmon and chicken that was expertly finished on the BBQ by maintenance assistant Charlie Claydon, ending the perfect meal with a homemade strawberry pavlova.
Residents and visitors were then entertained by the Wansford Ukulele folk group, who played a variety of wonderful songs in the sunshine, accompanied by a glass of bubbly. An amazing time was had by all.
Birds of Prey
We had an amazing morning, meeting some beautiful Birds of Prey at our sister home Chater Lodge. Kathleen and Chis were thrilled to meet a barn owl, tawny owl and falcon; and to see a wonderful display of flight. Both of our residents were excited to hold the beautiful tawny owl and to stroke her soft feathers. We were then treated to lunch before returning home. What a fantastic way to spend a sunny day!
Thank you to Chater Lodge for being such wonderful hosts.
Enjoying our Beautiful Gardens
With the beautiful weather we have been enjoying this month, residents and staff have been outside as much as possible! The gardening club have made headway on both the sensory and the main garden: weeding, pruning and planting beds; aided by staff and volunteers. Otherwise, we have taken advantage of the views by having various outdoor activities, including outdoor quiz afternoons; golf club and many afternoons spent enjoying the sound of the river and the birds over a hot drink and a slice of cake. We love our garden here at The Cedars, and are proud to live with such beautiful grounds.
RAF Museum London
Across our services we had a lovely time joining Rhiannon Watkinson from the RAF Museum London for an interactive talk exploring the exciting and innovative aviation history of Hendon.
Our residents were able to learn about the first flights from the fields at Hendon, the creation of the London Aerodrome and Battle of Britain pilots who flew from RAF Hendon.
The talk also included photographic and film material from the Museum’s archive. Residents across our homes had a fantastic time and we truly enjoyed the virtual experience.
Home donate to Ukraine Appeal
