Activities at The Cedars Bourne Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Life at The Cedars Bourne Care Home
Family Fun Day
Staff and residents at The Cedars Care Home in Bourne held a family fun day to celebrate the New Year. Residents and staff invited their families for lots of fun and games to celebrate all the promise of 2023. The Garden Lounge was transformed into a shopping centre; with stalls selling beautiful goodies including jewellery, decorative giftware and toys to the admiring crowd. Visitors were then invited to try their luck at the tombola and raffle.
Royal Parks London
Across our services our residents have enjoyed a wonderful live virtual talk about starlings, one of the UK’s most gregarious birds, hosted by Rachel Dowse from The Royal Parks London.
Rachel examined our long history with this bird and the importance of common species to our lives. Our residents had the opportunity to find out more about the great murmuration and why we need to pay special attention to these beauties before it's too late.
The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.
Collective workshop at Cedars
Residents at The Cedars Care Home, in Bourne recently enjoyed a collective worship with the children from Bourne Abbey Church of England Primary Academy. The event, which took place on 16 January, welcomed the group of pupils aged between five and eleven, who did a wonderful presentation on the virtue of perseverance. They then invited residents to join them in a colouring activity, and to have a chat about their lives.
The pupil’s presentation was described as ‘wonderful’ by residents, who enthusiastically applauded the efforts of the children.
Harpist helps ring in the New Year
Heavenly music rang out at The Cedars Care Home as the community came together to celebrate New Year’s Eve in style with a live harpist. Staff and residents at Barchester’s The Cedars Care Home, in Bourne, got in the spirit of the New Year by inviting harpist John Dalton to come and play a mix of music on his harp. With a repertoire of songs that included a waltz, swing, Spanish flamenco and 50’s rock; before inviting residents to sing to their favourite Christmas Carols. There was something to suit everyone! The group finished with a rousing rendition of Auld Lang Syne to end the afternoon.
Christmas petting party
There was huge excitement at The Cedars Care Home as Michelle’s Petting Party came by to visit the residents ahead of their Christmas Celebrations.
Staff and residents at Barchester’s The Cedars Care Home, in Bourne had a wonderful time learning about the very friendly animals from owner Michelle, finding out about their habits and what they like to eat. Several of the residents got to feed the animals some of their favourite treats. With three rabbits, a cat, a dog, Guinea pigs and a hamster; there was someone for everyone to hug.
Senior General Manager, Rebecca Aldred said: “We had the best time with all the animals, they are such gorgeous creatures. Our residents loved spending time with them and I do hope they come back to visit us soon.”
Resident's Christmas Party
The Cedars Christmas party was in full swing with live music from local vocalist and guitarist Mark Bishop; before having a special visit from Santa Claus who dropped by to test their Christmas knowledge in the ‘Best Of Christmas’ quiz. Santa then dropped by residents rooms to say hello and find out their Christmas wishes.
Our residents finished their party afternoon with a feast of festive foods prepared by the home’s chef, Gee Jowett. With a choice of roast lamb or salmon wellington for their main, enjoyed with a glass of bubbly, they almost couldn’t finish their desserts!
