Activities at The Cedars Bourne Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Helen Hudson
Hello. I’m Helen, the Activities Coordinator at The Cedars. I joined the team in 2021 and I have lots of skills that I can use to create an interesting and varied programme of activities, events and celebrations for residents to enjoy. I am a qualified holistic therapist and offer an holistic approach to activities in the home, I love creating new activities that our residents enjoy, taking residents out on day trips and promoting wellbeing through lots of different activities. When I am not at work I love playing my clarinet, crocheting and art - I use all of these in my role.

Life at The Cedars Bourne Care Home
Happy Birthday!
We celebrated Daphne’s 92nd Birthday on 15th August with a delicious cake!
Dementia UK
Staff and Residents at The Cedars Care Home in Bourne have been raising money for Dementia UK. Starting with the Dementia UK cake and coffee morning, the home was inspired to continue raising money for this wonderful charity. Following the coffee morning, the home held their Summer Fair, with a prize raffle and duck racing. The duck racing was expertly run by David and Carolyn Fawcett with Terry Dewey, from Scholes Funeral Service; along with Dr Clive Cole and Denika from The Lakeside Hereward Group Practice. We also held a non-uniform day for staff to coincide with our Beach Day and a chocolate sale for World Chocolate Day. The Cedars’ events were a big success – they managed to raise £1165.60 for Dementia UK and, most importantly, everyone had a lot of fun doing it!
Casino Afternoon
The Cedars Care Home were thrilled to host a fun-filled casino day this week. Residents at The Cedars Care Home were treated to individual magic shows before being invited to our pop up casino tables for an afternoon of (pretend) gambling with a James Bond Theme. Residents tried their hand at games of chance, including Roulette and Blackjack, whilst enjoying music from the James Bond films and a glass of wine. Resident Janet Hawker was very excited to join in and really enjoyed the games. She said “that was really very good fun and I’m glad so many people were able to come. Well done!”
World Chocolate Day
Staff and residents at Barchester’s Cedars Care Home in Bourne had a fantastic time celebrating World Chocolate Day on July 7, surely one of the best days of the year! Head Chef Aaron, a trained chocolatier, whipped up a selection of chocolates to sell in aid of Dementia UK. Residents, relatives, staff and invited guests were treated to a tasting session before being given the opportunity to purchase the delicious confections. Aaron started his culinary career in the armed forces, as part of the Military Combined Services Culinary Arts Team, where he trained under the UK Chocolate Master. Progressing his career, he became Head of Pastry for the RAF. After leaving military service, he opened his own chocolate business, where he worked seven days a week for three years perfecting his skills.
Birthday celebrations
The Cedars enjoyed a double birthday celebration this month. Janet and Ellen celebrated their birthday on the same day. Both were thrilled with the cake that home chefs Aran and Gee created for their special day.
Summer Fete
The Cedars Summer Fete, which was a duel celebration of Summer and the Queens Platinum Jubilee, raised over £550 for Dementia UK. Working together with The Lakeside Hereward Practice and Scholes Funeral Directors, we hosted duck racing on the river, stalls and a raffle that was enjoyed by residents, their families and friends.
