Activities at The Cedars Bourne Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Helen Hudson
Hello. I’m Helen, the Activities Coordinator at The Cedars. I joined the team in 2021 and I have lots of skills that I can use to create an interesting and varied programme of activities, events and celebrations for residents to enjoy. I am a qualified holistic therapist and offer an holistic approach to activities in the home, I love creating new activities that our residents enjoy, taking residents out on day trips and promoting wellbeing through lots of different activities. When I am not at work I love playing my clarinet, crocheting and art - I use all of these in my role.

Life at The Cedars Bourne Care Home
Enjoying time in the Blue Lounge
Paddy and Mary have been arranging flowers to brighten up The Cedars Bourne. This arrangement is for the Blue Lounge where they enjoyed their time together arranging the display and catching up on each other’s news.
Happy Birthday, Janet!
At The Cedars Bourne we were delighted to share Janet's 82nd birthday celebrations. Her special day began with a gift and card presented by the Care Team as they sang Happy Birthday. After lunch Janet had a Facetime chat with her daughter in Devon, and she had an indoor visit from her other daughter in the afternoon. Later our cup of tea was accompanied by a cake with candles. Janet also received some lovely flowers from her family. We love celebrating residents' birthdays.
A tiny visitor
Michelle from the Laundry Team at The Cedars Bourne brought her new puppy in to meet residents today. The eight-week-old spaniel (pictured with resident Paddy and Receptionist Claire) melted everyone's heart, especially Paddy who used to have two dogs of her own and said how much she misses them. We are hopeful we will be able to welcome our therapy dogs back for their regular visits again soon. We can't wait to see them again!
A 1940s weekend for VE Day
At The Cedars Bourne we commemorated VE Day with a full weekend of music and memories from Friday to Sunday. We started by welcoming Nicky Downs, a local singer, who entertained us in our lovely garden by singing some favourite songs from the 1940s. We all joined in and we are delighted we can enjoy outdoor entertainment again. On Saturday we watched wartime clips and music on a ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ DVD which brought tears to our eyes. On Sunday we had an afternoon tea dance, again with a ‘40s theme which brought back memories of times gone by. It was a wonderful weekend of shared reminiscence.
Enjoying our beautiful garden
We have truly beautiful gardens at The Cedars Bourne and residents love to sit outside with friends on a sunny day, admiring the plants, listening to the river trickle past and watching the ducks waddle across the lawn.
Enjoying our regular creative and crafting activities
Residents at The Cedars Bourne enjoy the range of craft activities offered every week. It is nice to be creative and chat with friends. Today we have been doing scratch pictures and making flowers out of coloured clay.
