Activities at Thistle Hill Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Thistle Hill Life Enrichment Team
Ursula and Katie make up our fantastic Activities Team here at Thistle Hill.
They develop and oversee an active living programme for each resident, which encourages mobility, social contact, independence and fun. Each and every person can thrive and live to their full potential with no day ever being the same. They bring great enthusiasm and spark to the home and have one passion, which is to deliver an amazing and vibrant activities programme to cater to all tastes and abilities.

Life at Thistle Hill Care Home
Coconut Workshop
Thanks to Coconut Workshop singers we had another great afternoon at Thistle Hill! We are lucky to have friends like them in the community. Today, besides entertainment they brought us joy, laughter and a few tears. We had a great time!
It's amazing to see the impact and therapeutic effects of music especially on those with memory issues.
Master Florist tutorial
Across our homes we had a fantastic time joining, Kathryn Delve, Master Florist, for a Valentine’s-inspired live virtual flower arranging demonstration. Kathryn shared brilliant and creative ways to decorate our tables with beautiful flowers that are sure to make your heart swoon!
Those participating in this virtual event put their skills to the test and followed along with some amazing creations of their own. Residents truly enjoyed the experience.
Valentine's Day
Thistle Hill was filled with music, laughter and sweet treats in celebration of St Valentine’s Day. Staff and residents celebrated the day of love by dancing, singing and enjoying pink cream tea with glass a of fizz.
General Manager, Mandy, said: “We’ve all had a lovely day decorating the home and making gifts for each other and for our loved ones. Lots of our residents were able to see their loved ones either in person or via video call. We’ve had a whole range of treats and Valentine’s themed fun and we have enjoyed every moment of it!”
Home celebrate Year of the Dragon
Staff and residents at Thistle Hill in Knaresborough welcomed in the Year of the Dragon with a day of celebrations and activities.
Inspired by Chinese culture and traditions, the home was decorated with hanging red and golden decorations. Residents learnt all about the traditions and superstitions of Chinese New Year and made red drums for good luck. Head chef Ewelina cooked up an oriental feast for lunch and residents enjoyed the delicious food washed down with Chinese flowering tea.
Burns night at Thistle Hill
Today we had a lovely Coffee Morning. In celebrations of what would be Robert Burns birthday we have read some of his poems including ‘John Anderson my Jo’, sung ‘Auld Lang Syne’ and did the Burns themed quiz.
Of course we were snacking on popular Scottish treats and toasted to ourselves with glass of Irn-Bru while listening to bagpipe tunes.
Good time was had by all.
Medical Detection Dogs
Across our services residents had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Emilia from Medical Detection Dogs.
Emilia took us on a journey to discover how the organisation began training dogs to support people with complex health conditions, saving their lives on a daily basis.
Using their amazing sense of smell, these dogs can identify odour changes emitted prior an episode and alert the person to take preventative action.
We were introduced to the wonderful dogs and the science behind the sniff. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our canine-loving residents.
