Activities at Thistle Hill Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Bank holiday party fun!

The end of the spring bank holiday saw our residents enjoying the beautiful weather with a Hawaiian themed afternoon garden party.

Our residents from Deighton, Farnham and Ripley came together and basked in the sun and enjoyed an afternoon of merriment, music and our new paddling pool was a big hit with some of our ladies dipping their feet in the refreshing cool water.

Blooming Haus

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Thistle Hill care home in were treated to an interactive virtual floristry masterclass courtesy of Master Florist, Michal Kowalski, from Blooming Haus.

Blooming Haus started with a small pop-up shop in Chelsea.  They have since blossomed spectacularly on to the floristry scene as ‘floral engineers’, carving themselves an outstanding reputation as one of the UK’s most innovative floral design studios. The company is the vision of Master Florist, Michal Kowalski and his business partner, Michael Dariane. The pair bring a completely fresh approach to floristry and their ambition to push the boundaries of traditional floristry has laid the foundations of Blooming Haus’ success to date.

International Museum Day

The residents of thistle hill celebrated international museum day, with virtual walks around famous museums, including the national history museums in London and New York.

Thanks to our digital platforms including our big screen projector and YouTube, our residents were able to enjoy the sights and sounds of the famous exhibits.

The dinosaurs proved to the biggest hit of the day, with larger than life cut-outs adding to the feeling of immersion.

Movement to music

The month of May saw the return of our popular movement to music exercise group.

Held once a week in the Ripley lounge area, led by our home physio Chris and assisted by the activities team. The movement to music group is a lovely social event where residents from across the home can come together and have lots of fun whilst engaging with one another and at the same time getting active and keeping fit.

VE Celebrations

At the Thistle Hill Care Centre in Knaresborough our residents have had a themed street party to celebrate the 76th anniversary VE Day.

Music from all-time favorite old classic songs were played ranging from all-time favorites by Vera Lynn and the D-Day Darlings as our Colleagues and Residents had a good old knees-up and dance, which was followed by a delightful afternoon tea.

Our fabulous team in the kitchen supplied our party with scones and cream and delicious Victoria sponge.

Residents wore hats and waved their flags while tapping away and singing to their favorite songs with our colleagues who were dressed up in war time attire.

Five Sisters Zoo fun for Residents

As part of Barchester’s Life Enrichment Programme, team members and residents at Thistle Hill enjoyed an exciting virtual talk, generously hosted by Five Sisters Zoo.

The residents had the opportunity to explore and learn more about the animal life at the zoo and the important conservation, rescue and education work carried out at the grounds of the zoo.

Five Sisters Zoo was officially established in 2005 with just a small collection of rabbits, guinea pigs, goats, and pigs. Since then the zoo has grown into an exciting collection of over 160 different animal species from all around the world.
