Activities at Thistle Hill Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Life at Thistle Hill Care Home

Story Telling with Local Nursery

Story Telling with Local Nursery

Residents of Thistle Hill enjoyed a visit from local pre-school children, their neighbors Red Kite Day Nursery, for a morning of story telling. The children from the nursery will be making regular visits to the home and getting to know the residents and making new friends over their shared love of books and activities.

Children from the Nursery will participate in various activities with the residents, who look forward to the next visit. “It’s great to see the residents' faces light up when the children come into the lounge” said Home Manager, Mandy Scott “they got so much out of the visit and continued to talk about it after the children have left”.

The Archery Man , The Archery Man

The Archery Man

We had a lovely evening with Colin the archery man at Thistle Hill on 17th July. Residents were keen to take part in his archery sessions. Colin comes to Thistle Hill once every month, and residents are always keen to see him. We have even started to make this a bit of a game, and we keep everyone's best scores on record to see if they can beat their last performance.

Balloon Tennis

Balloon Tennis

Here at Thistle Hill we are very focused on our activities as we recognise the importance of exercises to the residents. Balloon Tennis is a game in which seated players swat a balloon instead of a tennis ball, back and forth.

The game was originally designed by physical therapists – gentle exercise for the arms as well as a great opportunity to socialise, and we did just that as part of our Wimbledon themed activities. Balloon tennis is really popular and we had so much fun.

The Queen's Birthday Tea Party

The Queen's Birthday Tea Party

We hosted a tea party in recognition of the Queen's birthday. Residents had a lovely afternoon, with themed royal and party music playing, and plenty of refreshments available.

Big Lunch , Big Lunch

Big Lunch

Our Deighton Unit hosted a 'Big Lunch' event with the theme of 'ladies who dine'. The ladies enjoyed the finest red wine to go with their Sunday dinner, whilst being waited on personally and having a good ol' natter, complete with ambient lighting and soothing piano music.
