Activities at Threshfield Court Care Home

Here at Threshfield Court, we aim to tailor the activities to meet the needs of individual residents, the communities within the home and the home as a whole. We have regular, structured activities such as visits from Music for Health, specialist armchair exercise facilitators, local musicians and a growing team of volunteers, including our local clergy. We also have time for arts and crafts, all sorts of games, music, poetry and lots more. We are pretty good at being spontaneous too!

Life at Threshfield Court Care Home

A trip to Risplith

The sun was shining as we headed out east to G & T’s ice cream parlour in nearby Risplith.  Following a short ride through stunning countryside which included the villages of Grassington and Patelely Bridge to reach our destination, the oldest sweet shop in England sits at the top of the High Street in Patelely Bridge.  It was a lovely day and we enjoyed our treat at our final destination.

Ice-creams at Stump Cross

It was a hot day today in the Yorkshire Dales.  Rather than tea and biscuits,  today’s trip included a Yorkshire Dales Ice Cream.  Our volunteer driver David drove us high up into the clouds to Stump Cross Caverns.  It was slightly cooler and over cast up on the tops and we had the delight of watching a Red Kite soaring high in the sky

Customer Service Champion - North Division

Terry Whitham at Threshfield Court Care Centre in Threshfield has been crowned Customer Service Champion for the North Division in the Barchester Care Awards 2021 and is through to the national round of judging.

The Barchester Care Awards celebrate the staff who go the extra mile for the benefit of the 12,000 residents living in Barchester’s 248 care homes and private hospitals across the country. Categories range from ‘Registered Nurse of the Year’ and ‘Carer of the Year’ to ‘Dementia Care Champion’ and ‘Activities Coordinator of the Year’.

More than 2,900 nominations were received from homes and hospitals across the UK. All entries were a very high standard and Terry is delighted to have been named the winner for the North Division beating hundreds of other nominees.

World Chocolate Day

Today we revelled in all things sweet for World Chocolate Day with a range of chocolatey activities.

Our residents enjoyed an exciting baking class, where they made chocolate cakes, truffles and decorated boxes of chocolates with the assistance of the team.

In the afternoon, we watched a themed film, tasted our delicious treats and had a discussion about all things chocolate.

A wonderful day was had by all.

V&A Dundee virtual talk on history of robots

We enjoyed a wonderful virtual introduction to the world of robots with V&A Dundee Curator, Kirsty Hassard.

Kirsty talked us through the history of robots and their early beginnings, the presentation traced the fascination of all things wired and wonderful and considered what the future might hold for our relationship with a multitude of mechanical machines.

It was absolutely thrilling to learn what robots can do now and what they might be able to do in the future.

Poetry Club

Residents of Threshfield Court were delighted to welcome back local resident, John Anderson to their poetry club.  Residents listened intently as John spent time reading poetry before they discussed the poems and words used.  It was a lovely way to spend a morning with a cup of tea and slice of home-made cake.  Residents are looking forward to John returning soon
