Activities at Threshfield Court Care Home
Here at Threshfield Court, we aim to tailor the activities to meet the needs of individual residents, the communities within the home and the home as a whole. We have regular, structured activities such as visits from Music for Health, specialist armchair exercise facilitators, local musicians and a growing team of volunteers, including our local clergy. We also have time for arts and crafts, all sorts of games, music, poetry and lots more. We are pretty good at being spontaneous too!

Life at Threshfield Court Care Home
Magical musical journey
We celebrated Last Night of the Proms virtually with members of English National Ballet’s Philharmonic Orchestra, led by Music Director Gavin Sutherland.
We listened and danced along as members of the orchestra took us on a magical, musical journey. English National Ballet Philharmonic is made up of many of the country’s top musicians, and boasts considerable experience in all forms of music-making. With insights and anecdotes into what it takes to conduct an orchestra for a world-class ballet company, this special concert got our feet tapping, arms waving and hearts singing!
It was a wonderful experience, enjoyed by all.
History of Scottish Design
We had a lovely time joining Becca Clark and James Wylie – members of V&A Dundee’s exhibitions team – as they took us on a virtual tour of the museum’s incredible Scottish Design Galleries.
We were introduced to the wide range of unique objects at the galleries from architecture and engineering, jewellery and textiles to theatre and their fascinating stories.
And we were able to learn more about the importance of all objects in telling the rich and varied history of Scottish design.
It was a lovely talk, enjoyed by all.
Taking in the scenery at Ikley Stones
Residents of Threshfield Court love to get out and about in the homes mini-bus, one of this week’s trips was to Ilkley stepping stones. The weather was dry with a fresh breeze. We were really lucky to see a pair of kingfishers and red kites, as well as some mallard ducks. At our destination we were able to enjoy a warming freshly made cup of coffee with some lovely biscuits before returning to the home for lunch. The drive down the Dale brought back a lot of memories for one of our passengers and it was lovely to hear their stories.
Poetry reading
Residents and colleagues at Threshfield Court are fortunate to have volunteers who visit the home, John one of our volunteers visits bi-monthly to read poetry to the delight of our residents. Our residents love to hear John read out aloud as it is exciting and dramatic and are looking forward to his next visit.
Stamps for the Dog's Trust
Residents and colleagues at Threshfield Court were delighted to welcome back to the home, Geoff Hanson after 18 months, Geoff performed on his guitar our favourite songs which has everyone singing along and dancing away too. It was a lovely way to spend the morning.
Some of Residents loved to dance, whilst others sat back to listening with toes tapping! After the performance, Terry Whitham a member of the homes administration team presented Geoff with two large envelopes of used stamps as Geoff collects them on behalf of the Dog’s Trust.
Sea Life Trust virtual tour
We took a wonderful virtual trip to Iceland and visited the SEA LIFE Trust Beluga Whale Sanctuary to have an inside look into the daily care of their two resident beluga whales: Little White and Little Grey.
Our residents were introduced to the history of the Beluga Whale Sanctuary and learnt more about its mission to provide a more natural home for belugas in human care with a first-hand look at how the dedicated team are not only caring for the whales, but preparing for their future in the sea sanctuary!
It was an enjoyable event for everyone, learning more about the amazing beluga whales and how they are cared for at the sanctuary.
