Activities at Threshfield Court Care Home
Here at Threshfield Court, we aim to tailor the activities to meet the needs of individual residents, the communities within the home and the home as a whole. We have regular, structured activities such as visits from Music for Health, specialist armchair exercise facilitators, local musicians and a growing team of volunteers, including our local clergy. We also have time for arts and crafts, all sorts of games, music, poetry and lots more. We are pretty good at being spontaneous too!

Life at Threshfield Court Care Home
World Photography Day
To mark World Photography Day, staff and residents were treated to a live streaming photography masterclass courtesy of top professional photographer, Damian Bailey.
A professional photographer since 2003, Damian has won Wedding Photographer of the Year and is listed as one of London’s top wedding photographers, having photographed over 700 weddings. Damian travels all over the country shooting weddings, events and families and loves to help people create memories by capturing wonderful images that will be passed on from generation to generation.
Damian’s talk explained how he goes about capturing special moments and what makes a great photo in terms of technique and composition. From landscapes to portrait photos, Damian shared his hints and tips for getting the best shots whatever the subject matter.
Mouth-watering shortbread masterclass
At Threshfield Court Care Centre, we love to bake. This is a firm fixture in the homes life enrichment calendar and is a popular group activity, especially when the biscuits come out of the oven! We enjoyed the shortbread lightly sprinkled with castor sugar served alongside a homemade strawberry cheesecake with cream and a cup of Yorkshire tea. It was a lovely morning with conversations flowing.
Trip to Yockenthwaite
Todays trip was to Yockenthwaite, it was a bit cooler so no ice creams today. We did enjoy sitting by the river and listening to the gentle flow of the water, watching the pied wagtails at the water’s edge. The sheep were grazing and it was just to relaxing and peaceful. We are so lucky that our home is located in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales”.
Creative dance workshop
We celebrated International Youth Day virtually with English National Ballet’s youth dance company, ENBYouthCo and their Creative Director, Richard Bermange.
We had the opportunity to watch A Comedy in Long-shot, participate in a chair-based creative dance workshop and observe an open rehearsal where Richard and the young dancers created a performance inspired by our childhood memories.
It was a wonderful experience, enjoyed by all.
Club culture from 1960s with V&A Dundee
We had a lovely time joining V&A Dundee curator, Kirsty Hassard, as she introduced us virtually to the history and design of night clubs and the club culture from the 1960s to present day.
We explored the evolution and development of night clubs around the world, from Italy to America, and closer to home, looked at their importance as cultural venues and designed spaces.
This current exhibition celebrates night clubs at a very important moment, as we all look to a brighter future where everyone can come back together, to dance and to enjoy nights out once again.
We all enjoyed the virtual talk.
Home celebrates Yorkshire Day
Residents at Threshfield Court Care Centre were proud to celebrate all things Yorkshire on Yorkshire Day, August 1st.
Yorkshire Day was first celebrated in 1975 in Beverly. The day commemorates the Battle of Minden between Britain-Hanover and French forces in 1759, along with the emancipation of British Empire slaves in 1834, for which Yorkshire MP William Wilberforce fought a tireless campaign.
Residents at Threshfield Court Care Centre celebrated the largest county in the UK by listening to some traditional Yorkshire music and sampling some Yorkshire delicacies such as Yorkshire Parkin. Staff put together a quiz where residents had to guess the meaning of different words in Yorkshire dialect which proved hilarious!
