Activities at Threshfield Court Care Home

Here at Threshfield Court, we aim to tailor the activities to meet the needs of individual residents, the communities within the home and the home as a whole. We have regular, structured activities such as visits from Music for Health, specialist armchair exercise facilitators, local musicians and a growing team of volunteers, including our local clergy. We also have time for arts and crafts, all sorts of games, music, poetry and lots more. We are pretty good at being spontaneous too!

Life at Threshfield Court Care Home

Threshfield Hosted Community Knit and Natter Afternoon

Threshfield invited carers within the local community to join them for free knit and natter workshops at the home each month. The home recently welcomed the ladies from Trefoil Guild to join them. The group focus the activity around “Knit and natter” which is really enjoyable and beneficial even for our non-crafters. Everyone admires the samples of work which they bring in and enjoy watching and engaging in conversations about work in progress.  Lots of tea, coffee and biscuits are enjoyed whilst reminiscing about the Girl Guides, Scouts and Young Leaders.

General Manager Stacey Nicholson said: “We started this project for elderly people in the community who might want some time outside of the home and to make some new friends. We also wanted to make a space for those who spend their time taking care of others to have a little respite of their own, we know a cup of tea and a friendly ear can go a long way.”

If you’d like more information on the homes Knit and Natter group pop in and meet the team!

Ukulele Magic

We enjoyed the Skipton Ukulele Band coming to visit our home on 10th December 2019. They played us lots of Christmas songs, which we all sang along too. The afternoon was thoroughly enjoyed by the residents of Threshfield Court.

Bushcraft Event

Residents of Threshfield Court recently took to the ‘wilds’ to participate in a Bushcraft themed event the homes beautiful woodland grounds. In celebration, the home invited residents, families and friends to join them for this wonderful experience once the sun had set.

The residents enjoyed warming hot chocolate or mulled wine, delicious toasted marshmallows and enjoyable music – bringing back memories of gathering around the campfire.

Jean Hallam, a resident at Threshfield Court, said: “It’s a great opportunity for us to have our friends and family over to the home and enjoy an evening tucking into our favourite traditional post-bonfire night treats from when we were younger and to sit around the camp fire sharing stories”.

Table Magic

Our residents on Memory Lane have enjoyed catching fish today on our Magic Table, which is an interactive light projector designed to support residents living with dementia, and is proven to help staff promote stimulation through specialised games.

There was also an element of competition, as they completed a few jigsaws along the way. The residents enjoy spending time at the table, as we have a selection of games, many of which spark discussion and bring back memories.

Games are rich in colour, movement and detail, and allow people of all ages to play in a safe and comfortable environment.

Team of the Year

The team at Threshfield Court are celebrating after we took home the trophy for national winner of the Team of the Year category at the 2019 Barchester Care Awards on 3rd of October.

After being shortlisted as one of four divisional winning, we were visited by category judge Genevieve Glover, Director of HR at Barchester for the final round. The team then joined the other divisional winners from across the UK at a special awards ceremony in October, where we were awarded the national prize, and presented with the trophy and a £500 gift voucher by Barchester’s CEO Dr Pete Calveley and category judge Genevieve Glover.

Genevieve said of the team that “What I found most impressive was the enthusiasm of the team at Threshfield. Enthusiastic about learning and developing, both on an individual level and as a team, individuals within the group voiced gratitude to Barchester for providing them with the skills, knowledge and environment to care for their residents.  The team talked about being ‘inter-changeable’ – covering each other’s shifts and utilising individual strengths and team referred to their Senior General Manager Stacey Nicholson, as a facilitator rather than a manager supporting their success. It was extremely impressive to see how the team collaborate and support each other to provide the very best care for the residents they care for and try to do better every single day, a mantra that was inspiring and motivating.”

Stacey, Senior General Manager, said of our win that, “We are very honoured to be receiving this award. We work hard here at our home with a focus on the people we care for, and not for accolades, but it really is very special to be recognised in this way.”

Pet Therapy

Luna the Trusted Companion Dog came to visit. Our residents really enjoyed cuddling and brushing her. Having such an adorable dog visit that loves cuddles and stroking really benefits them. The visit encourages conversation between our residents, and it also enables us to have lots of time to reminisce.
