Activities at Threshfield Court Care Home

Here at Threshfield Court, we aim to tailor the activities to meet the needs of individual residents, the communities within the home and the home as a whole. We have regular, structured activities such as visits from Music for Health, specialist armchair exercise facilitators, local musicians and a growing team of volunteers, including our local clergy. We also have time for arts and crafts, all sorts of games, music, poetry and lots more. We are pretty good at being spontaneous too!

Life at Threshfield Court Care Home

Garden Walks

At Threshfield Court, we are so lucky to have a beautiful garden that is maintained by our Head Gardner. We have a large enclosed pond area, which i home to some lovely pond life.  We have a pair of ducks currently visiting u, who have been enjoying the cool flowing water. They are great to watch and observe from a distance. The goldfish are growing and enjoying the warm water and we recently had frog spawn.

The formal part of the garden has truly being magnificent; it is a well-maintained lawn surrounded by established flowers and plants. The old favourites include Bleeding Heart, Peony’s, Lamb’s Ear and Lupinss.

The residents and staff have really enjoyed this beautiful stroll and smelling the herbs. We are incredibly fortunate to have a wooded walk, which has been cool to walk through and includes lots of interesting features that we have created for the wild life. As always, the daffodils and bluebells have been breathtaking.

Gardening Week

The residents and staff at Threshfield Court have really enjoyed the beautiful sunny weather. We have a daily task of watering some seedlings that our head Gardener has arranged in our sensory garden. It is an opportunity for us to sit and listen to the birds and admire the selection of beautiful flowers.

In the sensory garden, we have created an area of special interest, which includes wind chimes, hedgehog dens and bee hotels. It really is a lovely peaceful and tranquil area, which is really appreciated and enjoyed.

Arts & Crafts

So far it has been a wonderful sunny month, but on the odd cool day, the residents and staff took the opportunity to be creative with decoupage and PVA glue. The ladies spent the afternoon ripping colourful paper and gluing their trinket boxes. The finished products were amazing. Afterwards, we all enjoyed a lovely cup of tea and an easy tidy up.

St George's Day

This year St. George's Day was a beautiful sunny day; the sun was shining and the birds were singing.

Residents of Threshfield Court enjoyed making the table decorations and helped us prepare for an old fashioned tea party.

The residents were provided with a selection of teas, which included peach, earl grey, classic, breakfast blend, turmeric, coconut and vanilla. We even enjoyed Elizabeth Shaw Raisin and Hazelnut and Lotus biscuits, which were all kindly donated by the National Tea Company.

It was a truly wonderful and enjoyable celebration!

Egg-stravaganza

The Easter bunny arrived early for all staff of Threshfield Court when they were surprised by the generosity of their local Morrison’s store, who kindly delivered Easter eggs for every staff member over the weekend. Colleagues were on hand to accept the beautiful boxes filled with a selection of eggs all shapes and sizes, sure to satisfy any chocolate lover!

As always, we were all looking forward to Easter. It’s such a nice time of the year – the staff and residents loved all the colourful Easter eggs and we made sure Easter was extra special for our residents during this challenging period for everyone.

Supporting Local Workers

This story starts with a local hospital asking an engineer who does 3D printing as a hobby if he could print 3D visors to protect their NHS and social care staff in their fight against Covid-19.  The engineer could. Within a day, he had found a template, printed a prototype and had it reviewed and trialled by the hospital.

Less than 2 weeks later, 13 of his colleagues have joined him in the printing activity. The team keeps growing in numbers as more people are inspired by this amazing activity, and offer support. All engineers, many are printing visors all day, every day, at home, in their own time, using their home hobby printers.

A week ago, the team started fund raising. As the demand for PPE grows, the money raised is all being used to buy filament material to print the masks, and also to buy new printers, to increase capacity. All of the money raised goes into making more visors.   Another 4 colleagues are using their own time to fund raise, manage requests and distribute masks to those who need them.

In less than 2 weeks, circa 550 visors have been printed and delivered to care homes, hospitals, GP surgeries, schools, pharmacists and undertakers across East Lancashire and North Yorkshire.
