Activities at Tixover House Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Life at Tixover House Care Home
Wet Weather Wednesday
As Wednesday brought the strong winds and rain, Beryl sat with Margaret and Heather to draw, from the warmth of our sun lounge the group watched the autumn leaves fall from the trees outside Tixover House and sweep across the open fields.
Whatever the weather the wonderful students from Oundle School never let us down, joining our residents for their weekly Games Club. They sat and played scrabble with Renira and her daughter and supported David and Heather to complete a very difficult jigsaw, providing stimulating conversation throughout on the events of today.
PAT Dog 'Eddie' Delights
A visit from 'Eddie the Wonder Dog' always delights!
His breakfast time wonder around our communities had the residents smiling and chatting about him all day. Animals of all types can bring such pleasure and help spark lost memories.
Eddie's beautiful soft coat and loving eyes as he snuggles into our residents giving him a stroke and the odd treat helps them relax and feel joy. Life in Tixover House is all about love and friendships.
Making Community Links
Our home manager; Ive Alexander and activities lead; Nicola have been out and about Stamford and the surrounding villages getting to know local businesses, and community support teams.
Their mission is to make our local communities aware of all the exciting events open to the public at Tixover House, and launch the Barchester Healthcare ‘Wednesday Winter Warmers’ initiative that offers a warming bowl of soup and a soft roll to older people within our community feeling alone and in need of some company throughout the coming winter months.
From weekly activities to our monthly Memory Café – All events and activities are complimentary, and give our residents, and staff the opportunity to meet and greet new friends.
Oktoberfest Fun
Residents at Tixover House care home enjoyed taking part in an authentic German experience. The homes celebration of Oktoberfest consisted of listening and singing along to German music courtesy of a Bavarian band on YouTube, sampling a selection of German foods from salami's to smoked cheeses all washed down with Riesling white wine and steins of German Beer!
Everyone agreed the ‘Lebkuchen’ a fruity apricot filled gingerbread dark chocolate covered heart biscuit desert were simply the best.
Ive Alexander, general manager at the home, said: “We all have had a great time celebrating Oktoberfest at the home. Residents and staff enjoyed the delicious traditional foods, and the German Oom-Pah music got everyone in the mood to dance.”
Winter Planting
One of our lovely residents; Renira braved the autumnal weather to help our head of maintenance; Tony replant the homes flower boxes. She loves gardening and was keen to get involved. We look forward to seeing the plants flourish.
Whatever your passion or hobby, living at Tixover House doesn’t mean it has to stop. We encourage resident participation in everyday activities and will happily find a way for our residents to continue to do what is of importance to them.
Colour and Light
This week we've been celebrating Diwali and preparing for Halloween in our arts and crafts sessions. Patricia loved the bright orange 'pumpkin' paint and learning about why fireworks are set off during Diwali to represent the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. Beryl loves drawing and enjoyed using glitter paints on some of her designs.
