Activities at Tixover House Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Caroline Geddes

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Caroline and I joined the team at Tixover House in 2023.

I am passionate about creating person-centred activities which ultimately enrich our residents' lives.  My main aim is to bring happiness through the doorway daily; spreading smiles, laughter and love - I want to make a difference to the lives of those that we support.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Tixover House Care Home

Home joins Bingo Bonzana!

Staff and residents joined fellow keen dabbers from over 260 Barchester care homes and hospitals across the whole of the UK, including Wales, Scotland, Jersey and the Isle of Wight, to compete in one of the biggest games of bingo Barchester has ever seen!

Barchester’s Big Bingo Bonanza took place on 26th November 2024 when Tixover House got super competitive and took on its sister homes from all over the country to find out which Barchester home or hospital was a dab hand at bingo.  It was eyes down for a full house as the homes battled it out to find out who would prevail.

Festive Floristry Workshop

Staff and residents across our homes were treated to an interactive virtual Christmas-inspired table decorating masterclass, courtesy of talented master florist, Kathryn Delve.

Kathryn is an independent florist based in Somerset, she specialises in creating unique wedding and event flowers.  She takes much of her inspiration for her displays from the beautiful scenery that surrounds her home and the changing seasons and colours.

During the workshop, residents were invited to join Kathryn to make beautiful Christmas-themed table decorations.

Wintery Walks

Now the winds are manageable and we have blue sky, we enjoyed some walks and time in our grounds this morning. It was still slightly gusty, but we laughed and chatted throughout and passed the time, getting fresh air and goodness.

Meanwhile, a wintry-scene was set out on our activity table in our Memory Lane. This table is ever so important, it is themed and contains sensory elements for inclusive activities. As well as looking appealing, it includes a range of activities, from activity books, through to quizzes, colouring, wordsearches, crosswords and games.’

Walk through a landscape

Residents across our services had a lovely time joining Emily and Marie-Therese from the Wallace Collection, for a virtual introduction to Reubens' Rainbow Landscape.

Residents truly enjoyed the sensory walk through one of the museum’s most famous landscape paintings.

Everyone who joined had a wonderful experience and can’t wait to put their creative skills to the test by painting some landscapes of our their in the coming days!

Home supports Children in Need

Taking place this year on Friday 15 November, Children in Need raises money to help support local charities and projects which are providing essential frontline help to children and young people in communities throughout the UK.

Tixover House, to do their part for children, are organising a children’s toy drop off in their reception area. This incentive will be running from Friday 15 November through until Friday 20 December, when the presents will have been gift wrapped by our residents and being delivered to children’s wards of our local hospital and children in the community who are less fortunate.

Remembrance Day

Tixover House in Rutland commemorated Remembrance Day on Sunday 10 November.  They joined the rest of the United Kingdom in holding a two-minute silence at 11am.

As well as marking Remembrance Day by wearing poppies and watching the televised service from The Cenotaph, residents went to the Remembrance Service at Barrowden and Wakerley Church. Tixover House has in house church services but residents are always keen to visit the local church and hear the local vicar deliver the service in person where possible. The residents from Tixover House were welcomed by the vicar with a special mention of their attendance on that date. They bought back the worship book and the activities team visited each resident in the Nursing Community to have one-to-one discussions of remembrance.
