Activities at Tixover House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Caroline Geddes

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Caroline and I joined the team at Tixover House in 2023.

I am passionate about creating person-centred activities which ultimately enrich our residents' lives.  My main aim is to bring happiness through the doorway daily; spreading smiles, laughter and love - I want to make a difference to the lives of those that we support.

Life at Tixover House Care Home

Beautiful Walks in Tixover Village

Here at Tixover House we regularly enjoy accessing our beautiful outdoor spaces, grounds and neighbouring countryside, so we were very keen to promote National Walking month. We take our residents out on 1-1 or group-based walks, often having to wrap themselves in blankets on cooler May days. The smiles and joyfulness remained nonetheless. We enjoyed seeing the gardens come to life in bloom and often stopped and spoke to our neighbouring community. At the close of National walking month and tying in nicely with our conversations about flowers and gardens, we enjoyed flower pressing in our home and one lady kindly wrote a personalised card alongside the pressed flowers for the ladies within our nursing department.

Foundation Cook Off

Staff and residents are celebrating because their wonderful Managing Director, Fiona Fagan, from Barchester’s North East and Scotland Division, has stepped completely out of her comfort zone to compete in the Barchester Charitable Foundation Cook Off 2024.

Fiona went head-to-head with the Managing Directors from Barchester’s four other divisions and cooked up a storm to raise a phenomenal £24,595 for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation which helps connect vulnerable people and those living with a disability to community groups in their local area by providing grants to improve mobility and quality of life.  Each year the Foundation distributes thousands of pounds to individuals, small community groups and charities across England, Scotland and Wales.

Virtual trip to Eden Project

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time exploring the Eden Project virtually - an educational charity and visitor attraction based in Cornwall, featuring sprawling outdoor gardens and breathtaking biomes that house the largest indoor rainforest in the world.

During the session, residents who joined were reconnected with nature through their senses, memories and stories.  A big thank you to the community team at the Eden Project for the wonderful event.

Tour of the deep

Residents across our services enjoyed a fantastic virtual tour of The Deep, an award-winning aquarium in Hull.

Our residents dived into the underwater world of some fascinating creatures such as sharks, turtles and stingrays.

It was a truly immersive and educational experience that brought the wonders of the ocean right to our screens.

Resident realises dream

Paul, a resident of Tixover House in Rutland, has been a life-long season ticket holder of the Foxes, having been to over 1500 games both in the UK and overseas, was given a day to remember as a VIP guest at Leicester City Football Club. From Leicester originally, Paul has lived in the Stamford area for many years and is very well known locally for his love of football and most specifically his love of LCFC.

The team at Tixover House knew how important this day visiting LCFC was going to be for Paul and his family, so thought they would make it even more memorable. They arranged for Paul to go down the tunnel to pitch side for the team warm up, meet with past and present players and to have a signed shirt presented by none other than Jamie Vardy. Leicester City FC really pulled out all the stops, Paul even got to meet with the club’s manager, Enzo Maresca.
