Activities at Tixover House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Hello, my name is Caroline and I joined the team at Tixover House in 2023.

I am passionate about creating person-centred activities which ultimately enrich our residents' lives.  My main aim is to bring happiness through the doorway daily; spreading smiles, laughter and love - I want to make a difference to the lives of those that we support.

Life at Tixover House Care Home

Celebrating Cadbury's

Residents across our services had a wonderful time joining Cadbury for an interactive virtual talk on their fascinating 200-year history.

Residents joining learnt interesting facts about the chocolate giant, shared memories, and reminisced about their favourite sweet treats.

It was a heartwarming experience filled with laughter, nostalgia, and plenty of chocolatey goodness!

Come sing!

Residents across our homes and hospitals had a fantastic time with vocal coach Dan Cooper from Biiah as he led an amazing sing-a-long session for residents to enjoy.

Residents who joined the event were able to learn different techniques as they sang the famous ‘I Can See Clearly Now’ by Jimmy Cliff and ‘Here Comes the Sun’ by The Beatles.

Across our homes there were smiles and laugher all around. The session was such a success and was great for the mind, body and soul.

Rummage Boxes

At Tixover House we have a variety of Rummage ‘boxes’ available for our residents in Memory Lane; The rummage box is a lovely means of tapping into memories from the past and helps people with dementia feel empowered. The large variety we currently have includes a briefcase, sewing box, garden trug, jewellery box and wash basket to name but a few! The ‘boxes’ contain familiar items pertinent to the particular activity, for instance brightly coloured cotton and embroidery items in the sewing box and gardening tools and garden books in the trug.

Each box is accompanied by descriptive text and photographs to aid the memories and encourage discussion where appropriate, and many also contain smells - such as the shoe shine box, which has a leather and shoe polish aroma!

Easter celebrations

Our home of late has been full of light and joy and the happiness and hope which come hand in hand with Spring, Easter and the clocks changing. Daffodils can still be seen within the home and the last remnants of Easter egg gifts which all of our residents received.

We continue to enjoy Spring walks in our grounds and the surrounding countryside, trips out in our mini bus, having had Easter festivities, a full person centred activity programme throughout and a regular stream of entertainers filling our walls with music, dance and merriment.

Nutrition and Hydration Week

We promoted Nutrition and Hydration Week and what better way than by taking part in the Global Tea Party. There seems to be a running theme here as we have continued with our coffee mornings which have been thoroughly enjoyed; where new and established friends enjoy a chat over a hot drink and a selection of sweet treats. There is always something to celebrate within our home whether it be a Birthday, family news or personal goals being met or surpassed, balloons, cards and cakes are a reoccurring theme filling our home; one persons celebration brings smiles and promise of brighter Spring days to all.

Balloon fun with Magic Merlin

We had so much fun as we welcomed – Magic Merlin – to the home, with balloon modelling and circus skills and Zechariah and his saxophone, with singing, dancing, cocktails and chefs delicious treats as accompaniment. We laughed so much with our plate spinning!  What a fantastic way to spend the afternoon.
