Activities at Westgate House Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our role in the home is fundamental to ensuring that our residents enjoy a fulfilling quality of life. We strive to provide a stimulating, creative & varied range of activities & events in the home, which everyone can enjoy whether they prefer social group engagement or one to one interaction. Residents choice is what we aim to provide to the best of our abilities. We enjoy being creative, sharing projects and discussing with our residents the kind of activities they would like to enjoy. Both indoor and outdoor activities are offered to cater for all tastes as well as regular outings to local places of interest.

Macmillan Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning

Big Macmillan Coffee Morning and Pudding Club. Bringing two amazing events together! We enjoyed a selection of cakes, and of course some great coffee! We like to support this charity. It touches all of our hearts as we all know someone that has been affected. Eating cake is a great way to aid a worthy cause!

Cultural Day

We had a great party in the garden to celebrate culture day .The home had a vast diversity working and living at Westgate. The aim of the day was to promote cultural awareness, understanding and appreciation by showcasing the diverse traditions, languages and foods. The day included live Entertainment by Cliff Jones, who sings music from around the world, including reggae. The sharing of cultural music is a fantastic way to communicate and promote understanding, staff dressed in their traditional dress and paraded their traditional attire during the afternoon . Residents learnt about the importance of cultures , traditions and traditional dress. There was dishes from India,Caribbean, Philippines,Nigeria and Gambia . Each dish had a variety of flavouring , spices , aroma and smells to tantalize the taste  buds .

Shopping And Pub Lunch

This week some of our residents opted for a bit of retail therapy.

With the weather on our side and support from our dedicated Activities Team, residents enjoyed perusing the latest high street fashions before popping into one of our local pubs for lunch and a couple of drinks.

Supporting residents to enjoy outings, shopping, meals out and other trips is a key aspect of the weekly activities calendar.

Family & Friends BBQ

This week we held a Family & Friends BBQ at Westgate House.

We enjoyed live entertainment with the talented Leanne Hollington, who sang songs from the 60s to the 90s. Residents and staff were showing off their dance moves and singing along to their favourite songs on the microphone.

The food was incredible, with Chef Sandra demonstrating her skills whilst we drank cocktails and fruit punch.

Our Activities Team is dedicated to ensuring that we organise events that encourage our residents to host their families and friends at Westgate House. Our home is always to open to loved ones who wish to take part in our life enrichment program.

English National Ballet

English National Ballet holds a workshop here at Westgate House each week called 'Dancing with Dementia'. The residents move to the beat of the music and are led through gentle dance moves, giving an opportunity for exercise and fun.

Namaste

We have regular Namaste sessions to promote relaxation and self-awareness. The sessions are designed to promote wellbeing, during the sessions the lights are dimmed, scents are diffused and gentle music is played whilst residents sit back and enjoy gentle head/hand massages, foot spas, sensory exploration and refreshing drinks.
