Activities at Westgate House Care Home

Our role in the home is fundamental to ensuring that our residents enjoy a fulfilling quality of life. We strive to provide a stimulating, creative & varied range of activities & events in the home, which everyone can enjoy whether they prefer social group engagement or one to one interaction. Residents choice is what we aim to provide to the best of our abilities. We enjoy being creative, sharing projects and discussing with our residents the kind of activities they would like to enjoy. Both indoor and outdoor activities are offered to cater for all tastes as well as regular outings to local places of interest.

Life at Westgate House Care Home

The Empire Windrush

The Empire Windrush

Westgate House celebrated the 70th Anniversary of the arrival of the HMT Empire Windrush that pulled into Tilbury Dock in 1948. Residents remembered their feelings on arriving in England during the British post-war recruitment drive from the various Commonwealth nations to help with the severe labour shortages in services like the NHS and London transport.

Lest We Forget

In recognition of Remembrance Day, we paid tribute to Gus Webb, who, during World War II, was known as 'Wireman Webb 693174'. We hosted a Remembrance Tea with with a special guest of honour – and a dear friend to Gus and his family – Reverend Canon Ann Easter, the second woman ever to be ordained as a priest of the Church of England. Staff dressed up for the occasion and residents and guests indulged in our delicious poppy biscuits that were made by Admin Assistant, Valerie.

Armed Forces Day

We paid tribute to volunteer, Augustus Webb, aged 94, known during World War 2 as 'Wireman Webb'.

Gus first came to Westgate house in 2002 when his wife, Flo came to live with us. Gus visited Flo daily for over 8 happy years, but Flo sadly passed away in 2010 and Gus has been visiting us three times a week to give his time to the residents who, alongside all the staff, have come to love and respect him.

The staff and residents of Westgate House would like to pay tribute to Wireman Webb, his crew and all the armed forces Personnel who have served the nation.
