Activities at Westlake House Care Home

Residents enjoy playing hoopla and bocce bowls, which combine exercise with the thrill of competitive sport. We invite entertainers and musicians to visit the home on a regular basis and residents very much enjoy watching them perform.

We also have our pet therapy dog, Marley, visit the home on a fortnightly basis, and residents love petting him. They also enjoy health and fitness days, where they get the opportunity to participate in armchair exercises and target games.

We always celebrate National Volunteer Week, which we use as a chance to say thank you for the wonderful work that our volunteers do that further enhances the quality of life for those who live at Westlake.

As well as continuing with our favourite activities, such as arts & crafts, bingo, knit & natter, Scrabble, board games, bridge, quizzes, pampers & manicures, reminiscence sessions and musical memories, we always like to launch new activities for residents, which give them the opportunity to socialise with their friends and families. These could be our own vegetable patches, flower arranging sessions, a book club or anything else that our imaginations conjure up.

Rosie Duhig

Activities Coordinator Lead

I joined the Barchester family in November 2024 and have instantly felt welcome and supported. As an activity coordinator, I am passionate about getting to know our residents and delivering  person-centred care and activities to all residents, an approach supported by a holistic, whole-home view.

I have been in a Care support role since 2019 and an Activity Coordinator since 2020. I love that my role brings laughter and joy to others. It so wonderful seeing people engaging in an activity they enjoy and interacting with each other. I am very passionate about Intergenerational projects, as something magical happens when old and young get together.

Life at Westlake House Care Home

Morning Exercise

Residents have been enjoying morning exercises to music. It encourages friendships and to be motivated for the day ahead.

Westlake House holds virtual dog show.

At Westlake House Care Home we love our dogs so much that  last week we hosted our very own ‘Virtual Dog Show’ for residents, family, and friends to share their pictures of their furry friends with us all too.

Dogs have fun loveable quirks, tricks and general gorgeousness. So, over July we ran our first ever virtual dog show at Westlake House Care Home where we had a whole host of fun categories.

Photos of dogs in their categories of Prettiest Pooch, Handsome Hounds, Cutiest Eyes and The dogs the Judges most wanted to take Home were emailed into Westlake Care Home by our local community.

Group judging by dog-loving staff and residents at Westlake House Care Home took place on Friday 31st July with entries displayed on a board and voters – residents and staff at the home, filled out slips to select their winners.

Kate Day, General Manager at the home, said: Thank you to everyone that entered our virtual dog show. Our residents have really loved seeing all the pictures arrive! We had so many beautiful entries that choosing the winners was a difficult task.  A massive thank you again to  R & H pet supplies for the fantastic prizes they have donated. A good time was had by all.

We are welcoming new residents into our homes to ensure that we are there for those that need care and support, and have a very clear admission policy and infection control protocols that must be met. Please do give us a call on 01403 270773 if you are looking for care or need any further help.

Westlake House Care Home is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers, which is committed to delivering high-quality care across its care homes and hospitals. Westlake House Care Home provides nursing care, residential care, respite care

Sports Day

It was such a lovely afternoon at Westlake House, when our residents took part in our first sports day.  Lots of fun and giggles were had by all and of course our chefs didn't miss the opportunity to find us some suitable goodies for the residents to re hydrate themselves afterwards. A good time was had by all

Celebrating National Picnic Day

The residents and staff at Westlake House never miss the opportunity to enjoy their beautiful, interesting gardens.  What better way than to join 'national picnic day'.  Out came our picnic table clothes, the sun blessed us with its presence and Ryan our head chef created a picnic. Obviously a good time was had by all.

Art Work with Carol

Our Residents enjoyed a lovely afternoon with Carol.  You can see by the pictures how happy they are.  Painting is known to be relaxing but these ladies made it a great social event and nattered and painted their way through the afternoon.
