Activities at White Lodge Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators here at White Lodge enjoy the fulfillment of helping residents feel important and a part of something. Meaningful moments are created through laughter and comfort. A varied activities programme is offered for the betterment of residents' bodies and minds, including music for health, 'Oomph' sessions and chair Zumba, in addition to coffee and cake groups that all inevitably lead to giggles and old fashioned singalongs. Also, we organise parties, trips out, walks in the country, bus outings and wonderful entertainers to visit our home. A sneaky tipple is always welcomed with cheese and crackers and, at the end of the day, it is important to go home knowing our activities have made a difference.

Activities Coordinator

Shayla Sharmeen

Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Shayla and I'm the activities coordinator here at White Lodge.

Prior to taking the position, I joined White Lodge as care assistant in 2022 and loved every minute of my role. My passion is very much in supporting the day to day lives of the people we care for, it is important to me that our weekly calendar offers rich experiences with music from live entertainers, as well as arts and crafts tailored to individual abilities.

Getting to know our residents better is so important, and through regular family and friends’ meetings we can gain a greater understanding of their loved ones' interests and life prior to joining White Lodge that will make for an enriched activities program to be developed, one that keeps them at the heart of the local community. I look forward to getting to know you, and your loved ones.

We are always open to new ideas. If you would like to get involved in any of our Life Enrichment activities or have a skill, or project you'd like to share with our residents, please click here to contact me direct. New entertainers and community links are always welcome.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Trip to Local Mobile Library

The residents at white lodge visited the mobile library to choose their favourite book.

Reading for just 10 minutes a day can have astonishing benefits. Not only is it a brilliant way to relax and unwind, reading can also help boost our mood, provide an escape from the pressures of life and even reduce stress levels.

Seniors who read often enjoy much more than just a good story. Scientific studies have found many benefits of reading for older adults. These include everything from reducing stress and enhancing sleep to improving memory circuits, sharpening decision-making.

Dignity Day at White Lodge!

The residents and staff of White Lodge Care Home were treated to a celebratory afternoon last week to mark the annual Dignity Action Day celebrations. Dignity Action Day is a national annual event to recognise those living in care and afford them the dignity and respect they so deserve.

The residents had a special visit from the councillor, Jacqui Lay, who gave her valuable time and presented a speech to the residents, staff and families. After that, they had a spectacular dance performance by Morris dancers. The hospitality team did an amazing job by preparing a special dignity-themed cake and nibbles to enjoy!

A surprise drama performance by the residents, staff and family members was performed at the end of the event! The drama showed how to live life with dignity in care, though it's not easy to accept for the residents, but with the help of staff and family members it's possible.

Burn's Night at White Lodge

At White Lodge Care Home, we recently celebrated the timeless tradition of Burns Night, bringing the warmth and charm of Scottish culture to our residents. The evening was filled with delicious traditional fare, including haggis, neeps, and tatties, shortbreads and scones served in a festive atmosphere.

Residents were treated to Scottish decorations that set the perfect scene, from tartan cloths to charming symbols of Scotland’s heritage. The event brought a sense of nostalgia to everyone, as they enjoyed the familiar sights, sounds, and flavours of the evening, evoking cherished memories of the past.
