Activities at Wimborne Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Zoe Freeman

Lead Activities Coordinator

I have been working in care since 2019 and love the industry. I came from working on cruise ships and running events and activities there which has set me up to be a successful activities coordinator in care. You will never see me without a smile on my face and always bring my fun and bubbly personality to my job. My favourite part of my job is making people cheerful  and help make their wishes come true to show people that age is just a number and we can have fun no matter what!

Remembrance Day

This month to commemorate Remembrance Day, our residents helped to create a wonderful display in our Lounge. They really enjoyed having a say in how they decorate the home for a day that is very close to their hearts and it was a chance for our residents to come together and bond in their shared experiences. Following this, we went out into our courtyard with a few of our green-thumbed residents to plant poppy seeds to mark this important day and our residents loved to be able to do something so special for it. We can’t wait to see them bloom in the New Year!

Halloween Celebrations

We celebrated Halloween with a spooky quiz, cookie decorating, lots of sweet treats and of course PUMPKIN CARVING! We had such a great time getting our hands dirty to create some really fun pumpkins to put on our doorstep! We already can’t wait until next year to see what else we can create!

Wimborne Oktoberfest

Wimborne Oktoberfest! This month we held our very own mini beer festival. We had an array of beers and ales to try and our residents scored each one to see which they liked the most! We also tested our knowledge on the Nations Favourite Drink with the Ultimate Beer Quiz! It was a really great afternoon that enabled us to learn new trivia and taste things we may have never gotten to before!

Exercise Session

We had GFitness come in to give us an exercise session! The residents here at Wimborne are very active and really enjoyed having Charles come in to get their blood pumping, play some really fun competitive games and definitely have them working up an appetite! We hope to continue these sessions monthly to give our residents a way to keep fit in a fun and exciting way!

PAT Dog Visit

This month we had our first visit from our PAT dog Rufus! He is a Briard, which makes him very big and fluffy. Our residents absolutely loved having him come in to sit with them, giving them a chance to have a cuddle and some much needed animal companionship. They’ll even be able to watch him in the Crufts Dog show next year! Our residents all can’t wait to see him again!

Scrabble

We’ve also really enjoyed Scrabble Club this month! It puts our brains to the test and gives our residents a great chance to socialise, quarrel over what’s really in the Scrabble Dictionary and overall have some great fun! It’s an integral part of our activity programme here at Wimborne and is always a great hit!
