Activities at Wimborne Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Zoe Freeman

Zoe Freeman

Senior Activity Coordinator

Hi I am Zoe,

I have been working for Barchester for over 4 years and am exceptionally proud to be part of the team here at Wimborne.

I love being an activities coordinator, sharing and bringing all the fun into the home. I relish my days with my wonderful residents, they make my day, we enjoy great times.

I have a wealth of experience with oodles of energy; I bring the positivity and sunshine with me wherever I go; you will never see me without a smile on my face. I love my job and Wimborne is just a fantastic home.

Celebrating life at Wimborne Care Home

Biscuit Appreciation

Biscuit Appreciation

One of our residents, a bit of a 'cookie aficionado' has loved Chef Anthony's vanilla and cherry butter biscuits since she moved in here.
She currently needs softer textures, so he has made an especially buttery (and therefor softer), melt in the mouth, crumbly cookie batch, just for her. They were well received, tempted her appetite and the 'hug from the kitchen' landed!
At Wimborne when we say we are 'person centred' this is what we mean.
We really do mean the individual we are privileged to support is central to what we do!
Capybara spotted at Wimborne !!

Capybara spotted at Wimborne !!

The missing capybara from Marwell Zoo was apparently (or not!!) spotted at a recent 'Dementia Communication  Talk' that we hosted.

The talk was a great success with families and community joining us, however after posting this AI assisted image on social media a surprising number of sensible individuals have asked when it will next be in. We think they will be disappointed.

Children make Intergenerational Games afternoon an exceptional time

Children make Intergenerational Games afternoon an exceptional time

The Intergenerational Games afternoon is a highlight for residents and the children from WAVE.

This month they tried magnetic chess, triominoes, scrabble and UNO was back by popular demand. The children played so kindly, with generosity and good humour. The biscuits were demolished and the smiles were broad for everyone!

National Pie Week

National Pie Week

Wimborne loves a pie and the National Pie Week created a great excuse for residents and staff alike to partake. Chefs Anthony and Hayden made some delicious tasty double crust pies for residents and staff enjoyed a couple made by Home Services advisor Nikki

Love is in the Air

Love is in the Air

Residents felt very loved upon receipt of cards and thoughtfulness from the children from WAVE ( We all Value Each Other, the  after school club in Mengham.

We enjoy a lovely relationship with this organisation as well as being loved and supported by our Community!

We share Intergenerational games events with them monthly and fun. laughter and shared enjoyment is part of the cake and coffee experience!

Our Head Chef, Hayden prepared some favourites at lunch including a guacamole and salsa starter, Mexican bean chilli main and Arroz Con Leche for dessert.
Kerry, our activities assistant then got the fiesta was up and running. Mariachi music was playing and fun of all sorts was had until the fiesta became a siesta for some.
Gifted Easter Eggs from Hayling Lions

Gifted Easter Eggs from Hayling Lions

We feel so loved by our Community.

The wonderful Lions gifted all the residents Easter Eggs and we felt thought of and valued. Hayling is such a Community focused place and we are living within a wonderful supportive place.

Monthly Billy joins residents and our Community for a little 'Dog Therapy'.

First Friday he simply enthusiastically pulls his owner Sharon in and they have time with every resident who wishes and those members of the community who want some gentle cuddles also.

He is simply the most popular member of our team!

Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year

Residents enjoyed discovering their fortunes, taking part in a fun quiz to learn more about the traditions behind the celebration, and finding out their individual Chinese zodiac signs which sparked lots of smiles and conversation!
Everyone took part in a Chinese cuisine tasting lunch, where everyone enjoyed sampling a variety of dishes and embracing something a little different.
A lovely day filled with culture, laughter and good fortune for the year ahead.
Spring has sprung here at Wimborne.

Spring has sprung here at Wimborne.

Despite the January rain, the gardening club work has paid off.

Bulbs and blossoms are everywhere to be seen, green tips abound and there are a few daffs, crocuses and camilias to be seen, just make sure its dry when you pop your head out!

World Cocktail Day

World Cocktail Day

A cocktail corner was set up. The garnishes were colourful and the beautifully prepared drinks gave residents the chance to enjoy responsibly. From the fruity favourites ( Chambourd spritz to Watermelon cooler to timeless favourites ‘Snowball anyone?’) residents had a chance to mix, shake and sample a variety of drinks whilst reminiscing about holidays, celebrations and favourite nights out from years gone by.

Gentleman's Club Success

Gentleman's Club Success

Wimborne has a far higher than average number of Gents so a Club for them seemed quite appropriate!

They gather monthly, bond, share and chat about things about which we must not speak! 'Whats said in the Club Stays in The club!'.

Singing for Joy

Singing for Joy

Wimborne is now joined monthly by a group of parishoners from St Mary's and St Andrews, gathered by Rev Jan Fuller. Residents have another opportunity to enjoy some favourites and have the pleasure of companionship and shared voices and music.

Pancake Bonanza

Pancake Bonanza

Residents enjoyed flipping and tossing, squeezing lemons and sprinkling sugar, the range of toppings sparked much laughter and conversation!

The ‘Pancake wagon’ – their adorned trolley – did the rounds, so those in the  Wimborne dining room, lounge, conservatory, quiet reading corners, bedrooms and even in the bistro area all had the chance for ‘a flipping good time’! Senior Activities Lead Zoe Freeman and second Chef Anthony Hayden ensured there was an endless supply of pancakes, fun and tasty treats.

A lovely day filled with memories, traditions, laughter and good fun. All agreed that it was great to enjoy something that ‘takes us back’ and gives us a touch of familiarity with the option of something ‘new too’.

Great Home Cooking, always!

Great Home Cooking, always!

You can't beat home cooking!

Every day residents enjoy food made from scratch, with love.

Hayden Jones, our Head Chef makes a beloved lasagne, Anthony our second chef is renowned for his light sponges.

For some residents the perfect fried egg and bacon sandwich starts the day right, for others their favourite soup or  a hearty casserole will set them up.

We 'joke', you can't ever be cold or hungry here, there is an abundance of warmth, deliciousness and smiles abound!
