Activities at Woodhorn Park Care Home

Activities make up the most important part of all our days at Woodhorn park, so we ensure a variety of social events are available that reflect the interests of all the people we support. In our Memory Lane community, we have group conversations and regularly reminiscence about past experiences, which is something that people living with dementia really enjoy. Many residents love gardening, baking, outings, pet care and gentle exercise, which we provide, along with many other wholesome activities, as it is essential that life at Woodhorn Park is fun and active.

Christmas Celebrations

The residents of Woodhorn Park have reminisced in previous weeks about Christmas Past and Present, the team gathered items from their childhood and even though not quiet Fenwicks window we are proud to display our window for the local community to enjoy.

Santa came to visit our lovely residents, team and children in Woodhorn Park, he had such a joyous time meeting everyone giving out presents and sampling home- made minces pies with a glass of milk.

Veteran Visits Local Charity

Resident, George, recently visited Ashington's local Veteran Community Hut, where he met treasurer, Ken Hicks. George served on HMS Cardigan Bay and was presented with a photo of that ship in Korean waters… actually when he was on board! That was back in 1951. George took along on his trip three medals for them to see and was thrilled when he was surprised with a copy of the photo, which he will be hanging in his room!

A Triple Celebrations

We would like to say congratulations to three members of the our team, who all celebrated their 15th year at Woodhorn—a total of 45 years of providing a unique and fantastic place for our residents to live.

Thank you so much for your dedication and loyalty. Well done to all of you; you are truly amazing!

Armistice Day

Both the residents and the team at Woodhorn Park wished to honour Armistice Day and to be a part of our local community. We decided to decorate our window to honour our war heroes as well as modern day heroes, in addition to remembering all of those who have fallen in serving their country to live in hearts that they have left behind, the team at Woodhorn feel that we owe it to those who no longer can speak to tell their story for them.

Inside our home is our own tribute to our very own Woodhorn heroes who currently live at our home.

Local Care Home Presents Cheque to Local Charity

Local Care Home Presents Cheque to Local Charity

Woodhorn Park care home in Ashington recently presented Ashington Veteran’s & Elders Institute with a cheque for £500 towards kitchen equipment for this charity aiming to improve life for the elderly.

The home presented the cheque to the local charity on behalf of Barchester’s Charitable Foundation, which is a registered charity that gives grants to older people and other adults with a disability to help combat loneliness and enable people to be active and engaged in the communities where the Barchester care homes operate.

The care home welcomed Mr Keith Green from the Institute to receive the cheque from one of our oldest residents Evelyn Gosling who recently celebrated her 100th birthday along with other Residents and Staff members.

Keith Green, The residents at Woodhorn Park visiting on a weekly basis has given us a new identity. It’s great to see our guests mixing with members and socialising with other homes. We love their company and seeing them enjoy themselves. I consider our visitors firm friends now. The staff are lovely. We appreciate the donation received very much and have purchased a new fridge, vacuum cleaner and a microwave is next on the list

Julie Bond, General Manager at Woodhorn Park Care Home, said: “We are always keen to show as much support as we can to local charities. Our residents find their weekly visits to the hut very enjoyable.
