Activities at Woodland View Care Home

Activities at Woodland View

Woodland View is passionately committed to providing residents with a varied choice of entertainment, social, health and well being, craft and relaxation based activities.

Activities will all be meaningful and based on the likes of residents and will continue to evolve depending on our residents. The activities provided will also include involvement from other local community based organisations and are open to all residents, family and friends of residents. Our activities will be facilitated by staff from all departments as well as invited guests. Families are also enthusiastically encouraged to play a part in activities when possible.

There will always be at least one person at every activity who has been DBS checked to ensure the safeguarding of our residents. The dignity of our residents and our respect for them is at the centre of everything we do, each and every day.

We are always reviewing and changing our schedule of activities to be a centre of excellence and actively invite feedback and suggestions for new and meaningful activities and ideas.

Petra Hardman

Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Petra and I'm the Activities Coordinator here at Woodland View. I love seeing the difference that activities can make to each individual, and finding out what interests they have and ensure I incorporate that into our activities here.

I love music and drama coming from a musical background as a singer all over the country, music is important to me and I feel it makes such a difference to everyone, it evokes memories, and creates happiness. I also love to boost residents self esteem by creating pampering sessions and having one to one time to relax and reminisce.

Raising the Roof

Raising the Roof

Woodland View resident, Bert, is pictured standing proudly next to granddaughter, Clare Leach, and her choir, 'Harwich Sing', following a special evening performance at the home.

The coffee lounge was packed, as residents, friends and family enjoyed the songs, which included interactive numbers, such as 'Under the Spreading Chestnut Tree' – a long-time firm favourite of Bert's. Warm mulled wine, mince pies and plenty of other nibbles were provided to complete this very special evening.

Ready for a New Year

Ready for a New Year

Preparing for a brand new year, residents at Woodland View worked to create homemade calendar cards.

Residents, Mo and Daphne, seen in above photo, show off their creations. New Activities Assistant, Carol Green, is preparing a number of similar craft-based activities for the schedule over the coming weeks and months.

Santa Comes to Town

Santa Comes to Town

Ho ho ho! Santa visited residents of Woodland View on Christmas Day, accompanied by one of his little elves.

Both Santa and elf, 'T', visited each of the residents, presenting them with a gift. Santa and his little helper spent a couple of hours at the care home before heading onward with their Christmas Day duties around the rest of the world.

A Woodland View Welcome

A Woodland View Welcome

New Activities Assistant, Carol Green, got a bit of a surprise during one of her first days at Woodland View.

Activities Coordinator, Kevin Riley, and interactive entertainment regular, Clare Leach, plotted to 'induct' Carol into her new role. It was a very special performance of 'Under the Spreading Chestnut Tree', which, of course, Carol had never heard before. The song has a routine attached to it that residents do each week – such great exercise! This was Carol's chance to 'have a go', and she did really well! Of course, it was an additional layer of entertainment for attending residents too.

Well done, Carol, and welcome to Woodland View. You're going to do very well here!

Bundles of Joy

Two Woodland View residents were recipients of a very special surprise in the run up to Christmas.

Swan Staff contacted Activities Coordinator, Kevin Riley, to nominate a couple of residents to each receive a special 'Bundles of Joy' festive goodies hamper. Sylvia Davies and Pauline White were delighted at the surprise presentations they were given.

Christmas Sing & Swing Along

Christmas Sing & Swing Along

Well, they wish it could be Christmas.... every day at Woodland View. Residents jingled their bells, shook, rattled and rolled to enjoy two high class entertainment performances from firm favourites: Tania Honey and Tessa Collitt.

Both events were very well-attended; the joy and energy in the room was almost tangible, with some residents joining staff members for a dance. Other, less mobile residents, were happy to join in singing, clapping and laughing.
