Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

This week residents got involved in fun-filled Christmas card making activities.

We spent the day making, decorating and writing cards to loved ones, friends, staff members and members of the local community.

Everyone was encouraged to work on their skills, some residents preferred to draw on their cards, other to write festive poems and Christmas wishes. 

Elsewhere in the home, residents in our Memory Lane Community engaged in Doll Therapy. 

Doll Therapy can provide a sense comfort and purpose to those living with Dementia or Alzheimer’s.

It can reduce stress levels and can bring back memories, creating a session of reminiscence, it can also help with making the resident feel needed and worthy.

Evelyn, a resident at the home dressed, cradled and sang twinkle twinkle little star to her little baby doll.

We swapped our uniforms for festive attire in aid of Elf Day and even Barney got involved. 

Launched by the Alzheimer’s Society and delivered directly from the North Pole, Elf Day was created to sprinkle some festive cheer on fundraising towards finding a cure for dementia.

We were able to enjoy elf-themed games, quizzes and delicious sweet treats, made by Buddy Wonderworth aka Shelbie and Misty McCheer aka Leoni.

Boroughbridge Manor recently passed a recent Care Quality Commission inspection with an overall “Good” rating after being praised for a responsive, safe, effective, caring and well-led service.

The CQC inspected the home on 22nd September (the report was released on 1st November) and rated the home, run by Barchester Healthcare, as “Good” overall.

The report stated that, “Staff were kind and caring to people. One person told us, "They (staff) treat us so kind and the way they look after us is wonderful." A professional told us, "They (staff) look after the residents really well and the staff are all really nice.”

The report went on to say “The residents always appear well looked after and well cared for by staff and staff work hard; there's a good rapport. They (staff) are good at building relationships with us and the residents."

In celebration of the rating and to thank each member of the team for their contributions to the home, each team member was presented with £100 gift voucher in appreciation of their hard work.

We had a great visit from Katy and Monet this morning at KL PONY Therapy.

Everyone’s faces lit up when they saw Monet trotting through the door! They were so happy to see him.

Monet is just 28” tall, he is the brother to the one and only Mr P!

Monet is absolutely fantastic at his job and definitely loves the camera.

Thank you Katy and Monet for an amazing visit! You always put the biggest smiles on our residents faces.

Residents enjoyed another wonderful visit from Carmel and her beautiful Labrador; Ciara at Therapy Dogs Nationwide.

Residents loved giving Ciara an endless amount of fuss and cuddles. Their faces say it all!

Thank you for the comfort and joy you bring to our residents, we love having you both visit.

For the first time in seven decades, Boroughbridge Manor marked the King's birthday with a  royal tea party.

With freshly baked scones and cakes for the occasion, all washed down with pots of tea. Residents took part in a variety games and fun to mark the occasion.

It was a great day, enjoyed by all.
