Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Shelbie Taylor

Head of Activities

Hi my name is Shelbie, I have recently been promoted to Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.

I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor for 7 years, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!

Myself, Leoni and Suzanne have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

National Allotments Week

To start National Allotment week off, two of our lovely resident’s accompanied Activities Coordinator Shelbie, and Maintenance Assistant, Tom to the garden centre in Boroughbridge. They visited to get some seeds and plants for National Allotments Week where this years theme is Bugs, Bees & Broccoli.

National Allotments Week started in 2002 as a way of raising awareness of allotments and the role they play in helping people to live healthier lifestyles, grow their own food, develop friendships and bolster communities.

We’ve decided that this year we are going to grow our own potatoes, herbs and radishes that our Chefs can incorporate into our resident’s meals, and maybe one day if all goes well we will even have our own little allotment in the garden!

We spent the afternoon making some Crackin’ Cress Heads!

We had a fabulous day!

Birthday celebrations for a special lady!

We would like to wish our dancing Queen Rose a very Happy 82nd Birthday!

Rose is very much looking forward to celebrating her special day with her family.

We hope you have a magical day!

International Beer Day

What better way to celebrate than by bringing the pub experience to our residents at here Boroughbridge Manor!

Residents had a fantastic time and got involved in a variety of interesting activities throughout the day.

Some of our residents spent time learning about craft brewing and the history of beer, whilst others preferred to join the beer tasting session with some of our favourite pub snacks.

It was a wonderful day, enjoyed by all.

,

Yorkshire Day

We celebrated the day of Yorkshire in style with a trip out to Beningbrough Hall.

We had a walk around the beautiful gardens and enjoyed a picnic in the cafe area whilst reminiscing about our favourite seaside trips.

Residents had a brilliant day, and to top it off the sun had his hat on!

Thank you to the staff at Beningbrough Hall for being so accommodating and friendly.

It was a wonderful day!

International Cheesecake Day

To Celebrate International Cheesecake Day, we spent the day making our very own!

The residents chosen flavours were strawberry and blueberry, a classic vanilla with a twist and a lemon cheesecake. They looked great and tasted even better!

Our residents spent time learning more about the history of this delicious dessert and were amazed to find out that the origins of Cheesecake can be traced back to ancient Greece.

,

Beatrix Potter Tea Party

Beatrix Potter was an English writer, illustrator, natural scientist, and conservationist. She is best known for her children's books featuring animals, such as The Tale of Peter Rabbit.

We celebrated with a lovely tea party, with a fabulous cake made by our chefs, in our dementia café, Beatrix Potter Oomph Wellness activity books and crafts.

We had a lovely time discussing the much loved author and her work.
