Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Shelbie Taylor

Head of Activities

Hi my name is Shelbie, I am proud to be the Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.

I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor since 2013, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!

Myself, Leoni and Kelly have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

Paw-fection

Meet Ciara, our beautiful new Therapy Dog who will be visiting us fortnightly thanks to Therapy Dogs Nationwide and her lovely owner; Carmel.

Ciara spent the afternoon meeting and getting to know each resident individually and safe to say everyone adores her!

See you next time for lots of cuddles!

Fish and Chip Mondays

We had a fabulous start to the week with a trip to the Fish Shop at The Salmon Ladder & Weir.

There were definitely no Monday blues over here!

Visit from Aquatic Finatic

We welcomed families and children within our local community into the home to enjoy a hands on animal experience with Connor from Aquatic Finatic

Connor held a brilliant session during which residents, staff and visitors got up close and personal with a variety of friendly animals!

Animal therapy has so many health benefits, including boosting your mood and reducing feelings of anxiety.

Thank you Connor and your little team for such a fantastic, interesting and informative animal therapy visit. We can't wait to have you back in!

Charity Car Wash

Staff at Boroughbridge Manor took part in a sponsored car wash to raise money for Breast Cancer.

Home Manager, Mark Hurst and his team got ready for the occasion by dressing up in pink and even some beards were dyed pink! The team got to work and the car wash was a huge success with plenty of freshly cleaned cars and happy customers!

Residents, their relatives and staff were all very supportive and were there to cheer on the participants as they began the fundraising challenge.

Shelbie Taylor, Activities Coordinator at Boroughbridge Care Home, said: “Taking part in this challenge has been a huge amount of fun and everyone at the home has been behind us all the way. It’s for such an important cause. I’m very glad to be able to do my bit to raise further awareness and money for the charity.”

Boroughbridge Manor raised a grand total of £200, by completing the challenge, which will be donated to Breast Cancer Now.

Namaste

We have recently implemented Namaste care into our activity programme. So far it has been extremely well received.

We will be focusing on the 5 senses; Sight, smell, sound, taste and touch.

This week, our Namaste session was based on sensory and mindfulness, residents enjoyed having hand massages, their nails painted and some even enjoyed the magic table, all whilst listening to soothing spa sounds.

In the afternoon, residents and staff got together and had a great time carving and creating their best pumpkins for our in house pumpkin competition, don’t they look wonderful!

Well done to our ground floor winners for creating a beautifully decorated pumpkin and of course to our runners up for amazing team work!

Throughout the day we decorated the home, doesn’t it look spooktacular!

Church Service

Our residents came together in the lounge and enjoyed a wonderful Harvest Festival Service.

Residents sang hymns and used their time to reflect, pray and give thanks.

Thank you Karen for yet another great afternoon of service.

A huge thank you to our fabulous staff and loved ones who have dropped off donations at the home for Ripon Food Bank, these are very much appreciated and will go towards helping those in need.

The residents have had a lovely afternoon!
