Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Shelbie Taylor
Hi my name is Shelbie, I am proud to be the Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.
I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor since 2013, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!
Myself, Leoni and Kelly have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.
We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home
Beatrix Potter Tea Party
Beatrix Potter was an English writer, illustrator, natural scientist, and conservationist. She is best known for her children's books featuring animals, such as The Tale of Peter Rabbit.
We celebrated with a lovely tea party, with a fabulous cake made by our chefs, in our dementia café, Beatrix Potter Oomph Wellness activity books and crafts.
We had a lovely time discussing the much loved author and her work.
Opera Performance
Our homes had a fabulous time with the talented soprano Astrid Joos from Street Theatre. Astrid spoke about a selection of famous operas and our residents were treated to performances of wonderful arias from operas well-known to all, such as ‘Giuditta’, ‘Don Giovanni’ and ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’.
It was a lovely experience, truly enjoyed by all.
10 Years Service Award
Huge congratulations to our Senior Carer, Leoni Senior who today is celebrating her 10 years of service at Boroughbridge Manor.
She was presented with a beautiful bouquet of flowers, a Barchester gold pin and a shopping voucher for all of her hard work.
Leoni started working at Boroughbridge Manor in 2012, since she has provided the highest quality of care to our residents.
Leoni, you are incredible!
Thank you for all of your hard work and devotedness to Boroughbridge Manor and our residents.
National Ice Cream Day
I scream you scream, we all scream for ice cream!
Residents, staff and visitors have had a fabulous time celebrating National Ice Cream Day!
From ice lollies to ice cream tubs to classic 99s!
There was definitely something for everyone.
We enjoyed looking through the National Ice Cream activity booklets provided by Oomph Wellness, as we tucked into our ice creams.
Resident commented “I remember when I used to go to the seaside with my children, we always had an ice cream on the beach”.
A perfect way to cool down during these hot summer days!
World Chocolate Day
Our residents enjoyed an exciting trip out to York’s Chocolate Story and had an in depth guided tour for World Chocolate Day.
We explored the origins of cocoa and took a trip down memory lane with some of our retro favourites!
Like experts we tasted a variety of chocolate.
We had a go at making our own chocolate pops whilst enjoying a live chocolatier demonstration!
It was great!
Once we finished the tour residents enjoyed chocolate fondues with strawberries and marshmallows – YUM.
We even managed to have a look at the York Minister, residents were fascinated by it, as Veterans were arriving for the Kohima Commemoration Service at Dean’s Park.
We have had a fantastic day!
Virtual event with Dr Tim Howard
Residents across our homes had a lovely time joining Dr Tim Howard, 4th generation GP, whose whole life has been about patient care, for an exciting virtual event to discuss his novel ‘Let’s Kill All The Lawyers’.
The novel is a medical fiction thriller that explores the impact of life and death events, mistakes and forgiveness, and the impact of law and justice on the day- to-day lives of ordinary people doing their best in difficult circumstances.
Residents had the chance to ask their own questions once the discussion was over and a great time was had by all.
