Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Shelbie Taylor

Head of Activities

Hi my name is Shelbie, I have recently been promoted to Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.

I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor for 7 years, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!

Myself, Leoni and Suzanne have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

National Gardening Week

Bringing the outside in!

Due to the weather not being particularly great, we brought the outside in.

Residents enjoyed tidying up the plant pots and planting new flowers in the conservatory for National Gardening Week to brighten up the garden.

Gardening can support residents living with Dementia by awakening some of the senses they may have difficulty with such as sight and touch, it can also provide some physical benefits for example, improve hand strength, improve muscle tone and help improve fine motor skills.

Bake for Dementia

Our fantastic bakes and confectionery raised a whopping £62.75p which will be split between Alzheimer's Society and Dementia UK!

A huge thank you to everyone that got involved with the games, baking and generous donations, we couldn’t of done it without any of you!

An extra special thank you to Georgina Louise, one of our residents Granddaughters, for her delicious bakes! They were fantastic!

Fun filled afternoon with a music performance from Trevor Woodhead

We enjoyed a fun-filled morning with a visit from Trevor Woodhead Music.

Boroughbridge Manor's life enrichment programme includes a variety of different activities, with live music performances being one of the most popular.

The dining room became a dancefloor as staff and residents sang and danced along to some wonderful songs. Music is a huge part of life here at Boroughbridge Manor. The power of music is used daily in the home to promote physical, psychological, social, and spiritual wellbeing.

World Design Day at Boroughbridge Manor

This morning residents enjoyed flower arranging for world design day and this afternoon our lovely residents took part in the art class and painted them.

It was a great afternoon enjoyed by all!

Conversations on The Pond with Henry Slator

We had a lovely time joining Henry Slator for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘Conversations at the Pond’.

Henry had an unusual writing journey, which many of our residents found inspiring, he underwent chemotherapy in early 2020, which allowed him to rediscover his light-hearted outlook on life by imagining conversations with creatures in and around his large garden pond and adding buckets of fun.

The entertaining Conversations at the Pond, with its mass of colourful illustrations, took our residents along his journey, they felt inspired, cheered and loved hearing all about Henry’s experiences.

A great time was had by all.

Time for a cuppa

Residents enjoyed making rice crispy buns and rice crispy tray bakes for bake for Dementia and time for a cuppa this Friday at 11am!

We will be raising money for Alzheimer's Society and Dementia UK so whatever we raise will be divided between the two wonderful charities.

There will be lots of cakes, games, a bake for dementia quiz. There will also be a prize for the best baked cake/cupcakes.

We look forward to seeing you!
