Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Shelbie Taylor

Head of Activities

Hi my name is Shelbie, I have recently been promoted to Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.

I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor for 7 years, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!

Myself, Leoni and Suzanne have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

Life at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Blenheim Palace Christmas Extravaganza

We experienced the Christmas extravaganza of Blenheim Palace with Social Historian - Antonia Keaney, who took us on a recorded tour around the Christmas sights at the palace this year.

Our residents were able to discover the story of The Nutcracker re-imagined within the palace rooms, each one exquisitely transformed and filled with hidden surprises – from the toymaker’s workshop on a frosty Christmas Eve; through the glistening Land of Snow and onto the candy-cane Kingdom of Sweets adorned with the sweetest of treats and larger-than-life gingerbread men.

Then the residents explored the after-dark illuminated trail in the palace’s picture-perfect gardens. A feast for the senses, as we witnessed glittering tunnels of light, dancing lakeside reflections, trees drenched in jewel-like colour and mesmerising flickering flames in the fire garden.

It was a truly magical experience, enjoyed by all.

Festivities in full swing at Boroughbridge Manor!

Here at Boroughbridge Manor we are excited for the upcoming festive days and this week our residents got involved in a session of Christmas singing, provided by Trevor Woodhead.

Our residents enjoyed a morning of smiles with a live music performance that took place at the home. Local singer, Trevor Woodhead, performed a selection of all-time favourite Christmas songs and carols, which brought happy memories to all. Our residents joined in with the singing, and clapped along.

You can see by the smiles, it was very much loved.

Festivities in full swing!

In preparation for the upcoming Christmas festivities, we spent time decorating our home with colourful themed ornaments, lights and baubles.

Our residents had fun creating the home’s Christmas display and got involved in arts and crafts sessions to paint baubles and make the beautiful decorations for our Christmas tree.

We held a special lights switch-on ceremony, where we turned on the Christmas lights at the home.

Everyone had an amazing time and we are all looking forward to the festive period.

Boroughbridge Manor supports Ripon Community House

Activities team, Shelbie and Suzanne visited Ripon Community House this week to donate a Christmas food hamper that had been put together with the help of some of our team and the residents. Suzanne at the community centre appreciated the hamper and will help those in need over the festive period.

Boroughbridge Manor loves supporting and being involved with the local community and we will continue to support where we can.

Musical Moments at Boroughbridge Manor

It was all smiles around at Boroughbridge Manor as we had a visit from Maggie Baker and her Musical Moments which delivered a fun and creative session for our residents.

Each session provides engagement and stimulating activity for those who live with dementia, and even for those who just enjoy the activity!

Residents find out about Winston Churchill's love affair with Blenheim Palace

Our residents were thrilled to join Antonia Keaney - Blenheim Palace’s Historian for an intriguing virtual talk on Winston Churchill.

The private resources of Blenheim Palace were drawn upon to afford very new and refreshing insights into this remarkable man. During the talk Antonia shared fascinating information about the breadth of talent, achievement and personality of the "Greatest Briton": soldier, politician, statesman, painter, writer, orator, family man - and bricklayer!

We all had a wonderful time and enjoyed learning more about UK’s former Prime Minister.
