Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Shelbie Taylor

Head of Activities

Hi my name is Shelbie, I have recently been promoted to Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.

I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor for 7 years, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!

Myself, Leoni and Suzanne have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

World Space Week at Boroughbridge Manor

Here at Boroughbridge Manor, World Space Week has started with a rocketing craft session - just look at these little extraterrestrials that the residents made using a variety of craft materials. We also enjoyed some space themed quizzes and colour pages.

World Space Week is a UN declared celebration of space held annually. It is the largest space event on Earth, with over 8,000 events reported in 2019 and held in 96 countries. The 2020 World Space Week is dedicated to satellites and their broad benefits under the theme “Satellites improve life.”

We've also been chatting about the moon landings and how space travel was a mere idea when these ladies and gents were kids. Its amazing to see how far space travel has come!

A wonderful afternoon of singing and dancing

Residents and staff enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon with another visit from Trevor Woodhead.

Boroughbridge Manor's life enrichment programme includes a variety of different activities, with live music performances being one of the most popular.

The lounge became a dancefloor as staff and residents sang and danced along to some wonderful songs. Music is a huge part of life here at Boroughbridge Manor. The power of music is used daily in the home to promote physical, psychological, social, and spiritual wellbeing.

Pony Therapy Session at Boroughbridge Manor

Yesterday, we had a lovely a visit from KL Pony Therapy for an afternoon session with Mr P.

Everyone loved how soft Mr P was and residents really enjoyed interacting and stroking him. He was the talk of the home for the rest of the day!

Pony therapy is a wonderful experience, especially for people living with dementia. The interaction with the animals provide a great sense of excitement, as well as comfort and joy.

Many thanks to Katy, and of course, Mr P for a very special visit.

National Sign Language Day at Boroughbridge Manor

On the 23rd September, to celebrate National Sign Language Day, we planned some fun activities to celebrate.

We used flash cards, practiced our alphabet and learnt some phrases that are key to our teams and residents communication skills.

Its always fun to learn something new!

Residents have a Latte fun at Macmillan Coffee Morning

In recognition of Macmillan Cancer Support, Boroughbridge Manor hosted their very own coffee morning to raise funds for the charity.

They decorated our reception for the occasion, and their talented chef and staff baked a variety of cakes, cupcakes and delicious treats.

Boroughbridge Manor are delighted to share that we have raised an incredible £220.40.

Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed to this fantastic cause!

We would also like to say a special thanks to Gabby our care assistant who took the time to bake the most beautiful chocolate cake. Activities team awarded Gabby with a bottle of bubbly for her fantastic masterpiece!

Residents tour the wonderful world of wine!

Residents had a lovely time joining Hospitality Manager, Christophe Noel and special guests Lee Isaacs DipWSET and Nick Parker from Unity Wines and Spirits – as they introduced us to wine tasting techniques, the history of wine and wine making, as well as consumer attitudes.

Residents had the opportunity to try a variety of wines from sparkling and white to rose and red, alongside a selection of delicious cheeses.

It was a wonderful experience, enjoyed by all.
