Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Shelbie Taylor

Head of Activities

Hi my name is Shelbie, I have recently been promoted to Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.

I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor for 7 years, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!

Myself, Leoni and Suzanne have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

Comic Relief Red Nose Day

Staff and residents at Boroughbridge Manor have taken part in a fun filled day enjoying quizzes and games and a colouring challenge, with Deputy Home Manager, Ashley dying his hair red for the occasion to raise money for Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day on the 19th of March and in doing so raised £100.00 for the charity.

Ashley Bulmer, Deputy Home Manager at Boroughbridge said: “Taking part in Red Nose Day has been a huge amount of fun and everyone at the home has been behind us all the way. It’s for such an important cause. I’m very glad to be able to do my bit to raise further awareness and money for the charity.”

Mother's Day

Residents at Barchester Healthcare’s Boroughbridge Manor care home, in Boroughbridge, celebrated Mother’s Day with Skype and phone calls with their loved ones. The home was beautifully decorated with fresh flowers for the occasion.

Shelbie at Boroughbridge Manor arranged flowers for each floor, music and games. Chef at the home, Tony prepared a special menu of Roast Beef and Lamb to mark the day along with some beautiful cakes/treats.

Deputy Manager, Ashley Bulmer said: “The residents all had a really lovely day. Although Mother’s Day has had to be a bit different this year, our mums have had video calls with family, not to mention lots of cards and gifts.”

Home host Easter competition with sister home

Residents at Boroughbridge Manor are getting together with sister home, Sherwood Court to take part in an Easter competition between both homes.

Each home are going to decorate Easter eggs and chicks for the other home to judge – there will be a prize for each home for the winner!

Residents are looking forward to the fun inter-home challenge and sharing their memories of Easter with each other.

A touch of Magic

Boroughbridge Manor Care Home in Boroughbridge has recently brought a bit of magic to residents by providing a new ‘Magic Table 360 and the Happiness Programme’ as a way to improve residents’ quality of life.

Designed and manufactured in the UK, the Magic Table 360 uses interactive games to connect residents with staff and with each other, and research shows it improves the wellbeing of people living with dementia. Using interactive light projections, the Magic Table 360, which can be played independently or in a group, stimulates movement by inviting participants to take part in all sorts of different fun activities such as popping bubbles, playing the piano, colouring in pictures, sweeping leaves or interacting playfully with fish. Games are rich in colour, movement and detail, and allow people of all ages to play in a safe and comfortable environment.

The Magic Table 360 is portable so it can be used wherever residents feel most comfortable, it can be projected onto the floor, ceiling, walls, a whiteboard or even the bed. The Happiness Programme allows for a range of games that change seasonally and have country-specific versions covering 14 different categories, so there will always be something new for residents to try.

International Chocolate Cake Day

Staff and residents at Boroughbridge care home had a fantastic time celebrating International Chocolate Cake Day, surely one of the best days of the year!

Staff and residents whipped up a selection of different chocolate cakes from cupcakes, to chocolate crispy cakes – everyone’s favourite!  As they made some of the most fabulous cakes in town.

Our varied life enrichment programme keeps residents active, and provides a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities.
