Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Shelbie Taylor

Head of Activities

Hi my name is Shelbie, I have recently been promoted to Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.

I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor for 7 years, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!

Myself, Leoni and Suzanne have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

Local supermarket donates beautiful flowers

Residents at Boroughbridge Manor were delighted with the arrival of flowers kindly donated by the local Morrisons supermarket.

Krzysztof, General Manager at Boroughbridge said "It was a lovely surprise for our residents and it's perfect to support our flower arranging classes. The reaction we received from our residents was priceless and we really appreciate the kind donations from Morrisons."

Residents discover the history and treasures of Hereford Cathedral

Residents had a lovely afternoon joining the team from Hereford Cathedral as they were given a glimpse of the spectacular building and its treasures as they were taken on a tour of the site.

From the stunning gardens which lead down to the River Wye, to the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library, the virtual visit shared the history and beauty of the historic building.

It was wonderful to learn more about the history and beauty of Hereford Cathedral.

Virtual tour of Safari Park

Here at Boroughbridge Manor we were pleased to be able to dive into the wild safari life of Knowsley Safari and to enjoy an amazing live stream tour of the park’s grounds.

Our residents were smiling and laughing as they got up close and personal with some of the safari’s most popular animals, including giraffes and meerkats.

We had a wonderful time learning more about the animals and enjoying some live feeding demonstrations.

National Biscuit Day

Whether you’re a die-hard Digestive fan, a Ginger Nut, or go crazy for a Custard Cream, National Biscuit Day, celebrated on May 29th, is the perfect day for you. And it was certainly a day of fun-filled biscuit dunking for the staff and residents at Boroughbridge Manor.

To mark the celebration of the nation’s favourite biscuits, residents tucked into a variety of different options, which of course, were paired with a good old cup of tea.  There was much fun to be had taking part in biscuit themed quizzes, and of course baking some delicious biscuits for all to enjoy!

Staff and Residents Celebrate Best Companies Award

There were happy scenes at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home as staff and residents celebrated Barchester Healthcare being placed 43rd in the top 75 Best Companies in Yorkshire and the Humber to work for.

The Best Companies awards recognise companies’ commitment to their employees and to workplace engagement and are made all the more meaningful because they are awarded based on feedback from a randomly selected cross-section of the company’s own employees.

It is absolutely wonderful to be recognised as an Outstanding company to work for, we are all so proud. We all love what we do and I think that shines through. At Barchester, we are a family and the past year has shown that we can do anything if we all pull together.

A blooming masterclass

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Boroughbridge Manor care home in Boroughbridge were treated to an interactive virtual floristry masterclass courtesy of Master Florist, Michal Kowalski, from Blooming Haus.

Blooming Haus started with a small pop-up shop in Chelsea.  They have since blossomed spectacularly on to the floristry scene as ‘floral engineers’, carving themselves an outstanding reputation as one of the UK’s most innovative floral design studios. The company is the vision of Master Florist, Michal Kowalski and his business partner, Michael Dariane. The pair bring a completely fresh approach to floristry and their ambition to push the boundaries of traditional floristry has laid the foundations of Blooming Haus’ success to date.
