Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Shelbie Taylor

Head of Activities

Hi my name is Shelbie, I have recently been promoted to Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.

I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor for 7 years, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!

Myself, Leoni and Suzanne have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

Life at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Residents celebrate return of entertainers

There were smiles all round at Boroughbridge Manor care home in Boroughbridge as live entertainers were allowed to perform in the garden once again.  Kim and Dave are back with their high spirited performances and they did not disappoint!

Just like the rest of the country, Government guidelines for care homes are starting to relax and performers can now entertain residents again safely in outdoor spaces.

Krzysztof General Manager at Boroughbridge Manor commented: “It is great to be able to open up again and have some live entertainment for our residents.  We have really missed being able to welcome performers into our home.  It’s lovely to be able to host events in the garden again now that lockdown is easing and the weather is getting warmer.”

Ann, a resident at Boroughbridge Manor said: “Staff here have been very good throughout lockdown putting on all kind of different events to keep us entertained, we have been well looked after but it is lovely to have some live entertainment again.

Enjoying the great outdoors

Residents at Boroughbridge Manor love to take advantage and enjoy the homes beautiful surroundings.  Joyce, resident at the home recently explored the gardens with a nature walk, listening to the birds and enjoying time in the homes sensory garden. They managed to get out and about whilst the sun shined just before it started to rain.

Hairdressing is back on the agenda

Residents at Boroughbridge Manor are delighted to welcome back our Hairdresser, Julie. Our ladies and gents have been pampered and have thoroughly enjoyed having Julie back.

It’s always a lovely treat to be pampered, and our residents deserve it. We do our best to provide a wide range of activities and entertainment as part of the lifestyle enrichment programme for residents.

Green Goddess joins Boroughbridge

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Boroughbridge Manor care home in Boroughbridge were treated to an armchair work out courtesy of the Green Goddess, Diana Moran, and Shackleton’s furniture company, followed by a mindfulness session led by Shackleton’s Emma Raybould.

Diana rose to fame as a glamorous fitness guru on BBC’s Breakfast Time in the 1980’s and has made an outstanding contribution to improving the health and wellbeing of people in the UK. She now brings that experience to Shackletons as their Health and Wellness Adviser.

Shackletons and Diana both celebrate the importance of exercise, a healthy diet and mindfulness, particularly in later living. Diana has been working with Shackletons since 2019 to promote their bespoke seating. She has produced a series of exercise videos extolling the virtues of gentle exercise in a Shackletons chair.

Vegetarian for Life demo

To celebrate National Vegetarian Week, staff and residents at Barchester’s Boroughbridge Manor care home in Boroughbridge were treated to an interactive virtual cookery demo courtesy of chef, Alex Connell, from Vegetarian for Life.

Chef Alex whipped up some tasty, healthy vegetarian snacks in a live, interactive cookery demo.  Much to residents’ delight, Boroughbridge Manor’s head chef Anthony, had prepared the same recipes so that residents could try all the dishes. Residents sampled delicious, light and summery veggie dishes including Borlotti bean and dill pate, Greek fritters with Tzatziki and Coronation 'chicken' pastries. All finished off with a sweet and simple but totally yummy banana bread.

Alex says “It was an absolute pleasure to be able to prepare these dishes for the Barchester residents and even more so because they got to taste them, despite my not being able to be there in person. Thanks to all the chefs in Barchester homes across the country who supported me to deliver this really lovely activity.”
