Activities at Braeburn Lodge Care Home

Our dedicated activities team are constantly dreaming up new and wonderful ways to support and stimulate the residents we look after. From trips to crafts, parties to skittles, musical performances and quizzes, we include something for everyone and pride ourselves on including everyone into the fun. We have a brilliant team of volunteers who help us to deliver more trips, support us at events and pop in for a cup of tea and chat. We have pet therapy at least once per week (sometimes twice!) and we take advantage of every school break by holding large scale events that we can invite families with children to. We have been developing ties with our neighbours since we first opened and thanks to this, we have successfully brought together our residents with local churches, choirs, Brownies groups, and schools. Whatever your interests are, here at Braeburn, there's something for everyone.

Yasmine Dawson

Activities Coordinator

I have worked at Braeburn Lodge since 2015. I started working as a carer and the activities side of the role really appealed to me. We organise a variety of activities to suit everybody’s preferences and abilities. I enjoy working at Braeburn and making a difference to the residents’ lives.

Movement to Music

Movement to Music

This month’s Movement to Music class was overcrowded with participants! The atmosphere was lively and everyone joined in with the games. We had brilliant fun passing balls around to each other, waving scarfs and dancing to the music as well. Another fantastic session Ruth!

Halloween Party

Halloween Party

To celebrate Halloween in style, we invited Eric Eve to play us some music while we danced, laughed and sang the night away. Staff members couldn’t resist joining us for a song or two, and volunteer, Hilary, definitely won the bragging rights for best dressed. Our selfie props were a hit as well, inciting riots of laughter throughout the night.

The Raptor Foundation

This month, we had an incredible experience with The Raptor Foundation coming to visit us for an afternoon with four of their winged friends. All of us were able to meet, touch, hold and fly three owls and a Harris Hawk! No one was left out of this fantastic experience as the room was packed with residents, family, friends, volunteers and staff. We held an outdoor flight show for residents to watch from verandas and bedroom windows, and we were even able to take tiny Goliath around to visit people in their bedrooms. All in all, it was a stunning experience that won’t be forgotten - and they will definitely be back again next year!

Trick or Treating

Trick or Treating

We opened the doors to our neighbours and friends on Halloween evening and were amazed at the number of ghoulish visitors we had. Residents were primed with sweets and the children definitely got their fair share from each of them as we had to run out twice to restock! Appropriately eerie music was playing and the costumes were fantastic. It was a tiring hour and a half, but well worth it as we all went away with massive smiles on our faces - and the children with overflowing buckets!

Pumpkin Carving

Pumpkin Carving

In preparation for Halloween, the team got together to carve up some pumpkins to decorate our path for trick or treaters, and to create a masterpiece to enter into our local pumpkin carving competition. We had a lovely time at Swines Meadow Farm Nursery looking at all the other entries and finding out if we had won. We’re pleased to announce that we won a reserve place in our category and had brilliant fun making the pumpkins too!

The PAT Dogs Return!

The PAT Dogs Return!

We feel so lucky to have our own PAT dog visit once a week. Jemima is an old soul with plenty of love to give and she makes a wonderful talking point for Suzi to start off conversations with residents. We really feel privileged to have her come to see us so often and it’s the highlight of our week to see Jem’s little face.
