Activities at Cadbury Hall Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Hannah Lewis

Activities Co Ordinator

Hi, my name is Hannah and I am the Activities Coordinator at Cadbury Hall.

I studied ‘Creative Expressive Arts, Health and Wellbeing’ at university and am passionate about using the arts to aid people’s social, physical, and mental wellbeing. In my spare time I love to dance, sing, and act, and help to run a local drama group for children aged 10-18.

With the support of all staff at Cadbury Hall and feedback from residents, we aim for a varied and person-centred activity schedule to help the residents lead rich and fulfilling lives. The best part of my day is seeing the residents get stuck in with the activities and looking at the smiles on their faces.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Sound Bath - New Experiences

This afternoon Eva Korponai demonstrated the power of sound its healing powers with signing /crystal bowls, a melody of chimes and the Sun Gong.

There was a lively discussion around the science, frequencies and how the gong and bowls are made.

Scientific research shows the positive effect on mental and physical health. A sound bath can help treat depression and anxiety.

It can also help with Chronic pain management

Thank You Eva

Its always good to try new experiences and all the residents are willing to participate. Try something new.

Everyone will sleep well with a relaxed nervous system and mind

We all had a ‘latte’ fun at our Macmillan Coffee Morning

Staff and residents held a charity coffee morning on 27th September to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Having a coffee morning is the perfect chance to catch up over a cuppa and a slice of something delicious for a great cause. The money raised helps everyone with cancer to live life as fully as they can.

Residents enjoyed spending time with friends and relatives, and members of the local community. They were even joined by Nicola, a local singer, who provided lively entertainment for the occasion. The catering team had baked lots of lovely cakes, biscuits and pastries for everyone to sample along with their coffee. Some residents decorated cakes and biscuits for the occasion too so everyone was spoilt for choice!

Our coffee morning was a big success - they managed to raise some money for Macmillan and, most importantly, everyone had a great time doing it!

A resident at the home, commented: “MacMillan is such a fantastic charity and they do such amazing work in the community, we all love raising money for them and the best bit is, we get to eat cake at the same time!”

Raising money for Weston Hospicecare

We hosted an afternoon tea to raise money for Weston Hospicecare in memory of John Pays.

Weston Hospicecare was founded in 1989 by a small group of people associated with Christ Church in Montpelier with the vision of better for those in need of end-of-life care. For over 30 years, health professionals at Weston Hospicecare have been giving palliative care to people in Weston-super-Mare and Northern Somerset completely free of charge. In addition to providing care, the team provides emotional and spiritual support to family members as well. The care provided is tailored to each person, and can also be delivered in a person’s own home should they wish.

We raised a grand total of £190.52 by hosting the afternoon tea for John Pays, which will be donated to the hospice.

British Sign Language Lesson

At Cadbury Hall we believe that many residents are eager to enhance their skill set and are open to guidance and training to achieve this. We also believe that continuous learning is essential for personal growth and we are committed to supporting residents achieve this.

This week whilst eager to increase our knowledge and expand our horizons we were incredibly fortunate to learn that our Activities Coordinator Hannah is fluent in British Sign Language (BSL). Sign Language is a visual means of communicating using gestures, facial expression, and body language. Sign Language is used mainly by people who are Deaf or have hearing impairments. This week Hannah, led a sign language class so that residents and staff could start learning the basics of BSL.

Whether it be learning to rock climb, play a new instrument, speak a new language, or discover a new technology, learning makes us feel better about ourselves. Every day might not be a school day, but you only stop learning when you stop wanting to learn!
