Activities at Chater Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Maria Durrant

Activities Coordinator

Hello. I am Maria and I have lived in Ketton for most of my life. I worked at the local primary school before joining Chater Lodge in 2019. My first role here was as a Dining Host and have now found my passion in creating an interesting and inclusive programme of activities for all our residents. I like having fun with residents, dressing up, singing songs and celebrating special events. I love being a part of the team here and my career change to Activities Coordinator is the best thing I have ever done.

Spring visitors to Chater Lodge

Staff, family and friends were overjoyed to see the smiles the lambs brought to everyone’s faces. Residents got to get up and personal with the cutest farm babies. 4 lambs visited Chater Lodge to kick off our Spring celebrations. Animal therapy provides relaxation and bonding between animals and humans.

Knitting Club

Phyllis loves to join the monthly knitting club, she enjoys the social aspects of it and the creativity. Knitting has been shown to promote wellness. In addition to being fun and creative, knitting has health benefits- it reduces stress, and has a calming effect.

Mothering Sunday

On Sunday the 19th March our ladies in our home celebrated Mother’s Day. All our ladies within the home weather a mother or not received a gift from the team at Chater Lodge because sometime in their life they would of cared for someone. In the afternoon, all residents were invited to watch the visiting entertainer Alan Jackson The Vintage Singer who is becoming very popular with our residents.

St. Patrick's Day

Our resident’s had a lovely day celebrating St Patrick’s Day. Staff dressed up in themed outfits. Resident’s enjoyed a themed lunch along with St Patricks Day games, quizzes and photo booth props and also The Great Guinness taste test where residents enjoyed a drink off Guinness alongside with Irish cream for our lovely ladies.

Sensory story telling

Across our services, our residents were treated to a special virtual sensory storytelling session.  Together with Art Historian Jon Sleigh and the Historic Royal Palaces community team, we explored several royal palaces through the theme of food, dining and celebration!

We enjoyed a fantastic taste-a-long experience from the comfort of our home, from Tudor treats to Stuart sweets. A lovely time was had by all.

The Arctic Airship Italia

Across our services we had a lovely time joining Mark Piesing for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘N-4 Down: The Hunt for The Arctic Airship Italia’.

Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fascinating story of the world-famous exploring airship Italia, returning from the North Pole on May 24, 1928. The airship was struck by a terrible storm and crashed somewhere over the Arctic ice, triggering the largest polar rescue mission in history.

The virtual book club experience was truly enjoyed by all.
