Activities at Chater Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Maria Durrant

Activities Coordinator

Hello. I am Maria and I have lived in Ketton for most of my life. I worked at the local primary school before joining Chater Lodge in 2019. My first role here was as a Dining Host and have now found my passion in creating an interesting and inclusive programme of activities for all our residents. I like having fun with residents, dressing up, singing songs and celebrating special events. I love being a part of the team here and my career change to Activities Coordinator is the best thing I have ever done.

Cocktail Day

Chater Lodge hosted it’s very own Cocktail Day as a celebration of cocktails,  We invited our residents, family members and friends to try something new, and perhaps a little exotic.

Whether you’re a tequila fan, a whisky lover, a gin aficionado or you just like to mix it up and try something new, our Cocktail Day has something for everyone. It was certainly a day of fun-filled tastings for the staff and residents at the Chater Lodge Care Home in Ketton, Stamford.

To mark the day, residents had so much fun taking part in a cocktail tasting masterclass led by our wonderful home host, Matt, finding out about the history of cocktail making and trying their hand at coming up with new cocktails themselves.

Come Fly With Me

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Chater Lodge Care Home in Ketton, England were treated to an hour in the company of Community Engagement Manager, Rhiannon Watkinson, from the RAF Museum in Hendon, London.  Coinciding with the anniversary of the D Day landings on 6th June 1944, residents joined Rhiannon for an interactive talk about historic Hendon exploring its exciting and innovative aviation history. They heard about the first flights from the fields at Hendon, the creation of the London Aerodrome and all about Battle of Britain pilots who flew from RAF Hendon. The talk included fascinating photographic and film material from the Museum’s archive and a chance for residents to share their stories and ask questions.

Chippy Teas all around at chater Lodge

Staff and residents at the Chater Lodge Care Home in Ketton had a fantastic time celebrating National Fish & Chip Day on ‘Fryday’ 2nd June, surely one of the best days of the year!

Our brilliant team in the kitchen whipped up a selection of different flavoured batters for residents to try along with some home-made tartare sauce and mushy peas, everyone had a great time guessing the different batter ingredients.  The sun was shining so residents took to the garden to eat their fish and chips.

Bank Holiday Fun

Chater Lodge Care Home in Ketton decided to celebrate the start of the bank holiday weekend with a good old fashioned knees up in the garden!

Residents, their relatives and staff all got involved embracing the summer sunshine and held a tea party in our beautiful patio garden area.

There was sparkling refreshments and snacks on offer as our residents enjoyed singing along to some of their favourite hits. Including the Everly Brothers and Elvis Presley.

Mini bus Trip

Phyllis loves to shop! Phyllis was overwhelmed that she was the first resident to use our mini bus. Off she went with Zoe, our general manager, to several shops. They enjoyed looking at clothes, homeware and enjoyed reminiscing over a hula hoop that she used to play with as a little girl. On Phyllis' shopping trip she was able to buy treats for the rest of the residents back at Chater Lodge.
