Activities at Chater Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Maria Durrant

Activities Coordinator

Hello. I am Maria and I have lived in Ketton for most of my life. I worked at the local primary school before joining Chater Lodge in 2019.

My first role here was as a Dining Host and have now found my passion in creating an interesting and inclusive programme of activities for all our residents.

I like having fun with residents, dressing up, singing songs and celebrating special events. I love being a part of the team here and my career change to Activities Coordinator is the best thing I have ever done.

Life at Chater Lodge Care Home

Beat the Clock

We’ve linked up with all Barchester care homes and hospitals up and down the country for some interactive Beat the Clock games.

Our residents truly enjoyed solving word puzzles, conundrums and mathematical problems as part of Barchester’s very own game show series.

We all had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

Cornish Seal Sanctuary

A big thank you to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary for the fantastic live virtual event today!

Residents across our services loved seeing the seals up close and learning about the incredible work the sanctuary does to protect them and other wildlife in Cornwall as well.

Everyone truly enjoyed the experience.

Pamper day with Claire

In the hustle and bustle of modern life, where stress and responsibilities frequently take centre stage, dedicating time for self-care is essential. The benefits of pampering yourself extend beyond mere relaxation, encompassing improvements in physical, mental, and emotional health. One of the most significant advantages of self-pampering is its ability to reduce stress.

Residents were treated to facials and massages , the hairdresser visited which helped relieve aches and pains as well as replenish key vitamins and proteins in the skins barrier that help fight the signs of aging, A wonderful day of relaxation was had by all.

International Dog day

International dog day is celebrated annually on August 26th, it honours our four-legged companions and their invaluable contributions to society. Established in 2004 by pet and family lifestyle expert Colleen Paige, this day highlights the importance of adopting dogs from shelters and rescues. It also acknowledges  the role dogs play in our lives, from being loyal companions to serving in critical roles such as therapy, support, and working dogs in various fields including search and rescue, police work.

Today our residents were treated to an agility display by Julia, Emily and Donna and their dogs. Whisper, Albert, Arthur, Gibson, Alice, Archie and Willow who entertained us. Julia answered our residents questions about her winning the agility finals in 2016.

Cowboy Ho down

Yee Haw Cowboys and girl’s !

We had a sensational themed day together. In the morning we loved having locals join us for our coffee morning listening to Dolly Parton and wearing cowboy hats. We were thrilled that several of Age concern ladies and gents joined us for coffee and cake.

In the afternoon our themed fun continued with live musical entertainment from the amazing KJ & The Cat.

We took to the dance floor in our cowboy boots and were singing and clapping along. Tony, head of Maintenance, was superb on the mic!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us especially the staff for making it a day to remember!
