Activities at Chater Lodge Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Maria Durrant
Hello. I am Maria and I have lived in Ketton for most of my life. I worked at the local primary school before joining Chater Lodge in 2019.
My first role here was as a Dining Host and have now found my passion in creating an interesting and inclusive programme of activities for all our residents.
I like having fun with residents, dressing up, singing songs and celebrating special events. I love being a part of the team here and my career change to Activities Coordinator is the best thing I have ever done.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Chater Lodge Care Home

Ketton Bell Ringers
We warmly welcomed the Christmas Bell Ringer's into our home and it was a delightful experience to listen to the magical Christmas songs we all knew, such as Jingle Bells and many more.
We also enjoyed the melodious tunes of the melodeon. The residents and staff are very grateful for their visit during Christmas time. Mince pies and mulled wine were enjoyed by everyone as a token of our thanks and gratitude.

Christmas Panto Fun
Residents, staff and relatives and friends from our sister home Tixover house, all got together in Honey Pot Lane dining room which was busting at the seams at Chater lodge as they enjoyed the timeless tale Oliver!
Full of magical twists, fun, laughter and adventures, the cast were delightful as they were seen interacting with residents and staff. One resident commented.
“It was a great pantomime production, the actors really made me chuckle! We've had such a great time!”

Carol Singing With the Cubs
Our home was delighted to warmly welcome the local cubs from the Ketton troop and the community into our home for an evening of Carol Singing and festivities with a carol concert.
There was a selection of refreshments including mulled wine, hot chocolate and other festive treats along with lots of other Christmas treats all prepared by head chef, Marta to get everyone feeling festive.

A Christmas Carol with the Old Vic
Across our homes we’ve had the most wonderful time celebrating the festive season with a special screening of 2020’s OLD VIC: IN CAMERA – A Christmas Carol.
This beautifully staged production brought the magic of Dickens’ classic tale right into our homes. A huge thank you to The Old Vic theatre for sharing this incredible performance with us. It was a truly wonderful experience.

Virtual Christmas Floristry
Staff and residents at Barchester’s Chater Lodge Care Home in Ketton, Stamford were treated to an interactive virtual Christmas-inspired table decorating masterclass, courtesy of talented master florist, Kathryn Delve.
Kathryn is an independent florist based in Somerset, she specialises in creating unique wedding and event flowers. She takes much of her inspiration for her displays from the beautiful scenery that surrounds her home and the changing seasons and colours.
During the workshop, residents were invited to join Kathryn to make beautiful Christmas-themed table decorations. The displays will be used to decorate the home ready for Christmas celebrations. Some residents chose flowers in traditional red hues whereas others chose different wintery colours depending on their favourite blooms and foliage.

Rutland Council Stop Smoking Support Seminar
It was a pleasure to host members of the local community at a seminar dedicated to providing support for individuals looking to quit smoking.
The event, held on Tuesday, 26th November, offered guests the chance to meet Kajal Karki, the Stop Smoking Specialist Advisor for Rutland County Council, who shared effective strategies for quitting smoking and enhancing health.
Residents, members of the community and colleagues found the workshop to be incredibly informative and we are so grateful to Kajal for her visit.
