Activities at Claremont Parkway Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Activities Assistant

Hi. My name is Elain and I help to deliver the daily programme of activities and entertainment and celebrations - there is always a birthday to celebrate! I like to see residents making friends and chatting with each other. I have a background in dance, music and acting, and I am also a qualified Zumba instructor, so I love it when we have entertainers in the home. We also have regular visits by therapy pets which residents find very relaxing.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Reflections of Picasso

'Fractured Reflections: A Self-Portrait in the style of Picasso'

Residents at Claremont Parkway like getting creative and each week we try to focus on a different famous artist and as well as trying to create their masterpieces we learn about their life and works. This week we were inspired by Picasso.

Engaging in artistic activities provides our residents with a meaningful outlet for self-expression, creativity, and social connection. Whether through painting, sculpture, or mixed media, art allows individuals to explore emotions, reduce stress, and enhance their overall well-being.

Creative expression has been shown to improve cognitive function, boost mood, and foster a sense of accomplishment, particularly in communal settings where residents can share their work experiences. Participating in art also encourages mindfulness, helping individuals focus on the moment while nurturing a sense of identity and purpose. By incorporating art into daily life, residents can experience personal growth, build friendships, and create a vibrant and supportive community.

Generations Together!

Today we were delighted to host our third parent and baby group at Claremont Parkway, bringing together young families and elderly residents for a heart warming morning of connection and joy. These special gatherings create a unique opportunity for different generations to interact, fostering a sense of community, companionship and shared happiness.

Watching the residents light up as they engage with the little ones is truly magical, and the babies benefit from the warmth and kindness of their older friends. Our residents talked about the changes in the generations and how terry nappies were the  trend and how lovely it was to hang the tiny clothes etc out in the sunshine!

We can't wait to continue building these beautiful relationships and making treasured memories together!

A quiver full of arrows!

Our residents love trying new things and this week we had the exciting opportunity to experience archery for the first time!

The benefits were clear to see as instructor Helen adapted the archery to suit all abilities, giving residents a chance to improve their coordination, focus, and upper body strength in a fun and supportive environment. Many residents found a renewed sense of confidence as they found a new skill, with some surprised at their own accuracy.

Beyond the physical benefits, the session also sparked plenty of laughter, conversation, and encouragement between participants, helping strengthen social connections and boost overall wellbeing. Integr8archery proved not only to be an enjoyable activity but a also a wonderful way to promote inclusion, engagement, and personal achievement for everyone involved.

Pancake Mixing and Flipping!

On Shrove Tuesday, residents gathered to celebrate the traditional day by making and enjoying pancakes together. The air was filled with the warm, comforting aroma of batter sizzling in pans, as residents joined together to prepare and cook the batter mix, sharing stories of pancake races and baking.

Residents chose classic toppings of sugar and lemon, while others got creative with chocolate spread, fruits, and syrups. The event was not only a celebration of the occasion but a chance for the residents to get together, fostering a sense of warmth, connection, and traditions.

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People

For 'World Hearing Day' our residents gathered in the lounge to be given a very informative talk on the important role of hearing dogs, explaining how these specially trained animals provide vital support to people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

The residents listened intently as John from Hearing Dogs for Deaf People described how the dogs alert their owners to important sounds like doorbells, alarms and even a baby crying, helping to restore confidence and independence. The talk was enriched with heart-warming stories of hearing dogs transforming lives, and residents were given the chance to ask questions and are looking forward to John visiting again and bringing along one of their friendly demonstration dogs.

A big THANK YOU to John and all the volunteers who help people keep there independence by supporting the organisation. Please keep a look out for up and coming events within the home to help support them.

Weekly Activities Strengthen Friendships

The week of 24th February saw a very busy week at Claremont Parkway.

Monday saw a cooking class, where we made a scrummy Mediterranean salad to eat alongside our afternoon tea. On Tuesday we enjoyed a 'knit and natter' where residents are making small squares to complete a blanket.

Wednesday saw us all getting creative with a bit of basket weaving, which required combined skills of dexterity and concentration. On Thursday morning  we explored the creative talents of Spanish artist; Joan Miro which certainly produced some stunning pictures.

To finish the working week we welcomed back Tom from G-fitness who put us through our paces with some physical exercises. Overall it was a very enjoyable and busy week, with lots of laughs and smiles.
