Activities at Cookridge Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Laura Marshall

Head Activities Coordinator (on Maternity leave)

My name is Laura and I am the Head Activities Coordinator here at Cookridge Court. I have worked in care since 2014 and get so much satisfaction out of knowing I have made a difference to people’s days and have filled the home with a sense of community and happiness. We have created a wonderful culture within our home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active and ensure we all know each residents' preferences so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. The strong relationships we build with our residents, their families and friends is essential to our homely feel.

Life at Cookridge Court Care Home

Mexican Independence Day at Cookridge Court

To celebrate Mexican Independence Day, Cookridge Court decorated their home in Green, White & Red flags which were made in their weekly Art Club by the talented residents.

Everyone then took into a delicious Mexican Cuisine cooked by chef Lindsay, which consisted of chilli con carne served with fluffy rice or chargrilled chicken fajitas served with a condiment of sour cream, salsa & guacamole, which was washed down nicely with a refreshing choice of Mexican Beer or a non alcoholic beverage.

It was a lovely day, enjoyed by all.

Residents celebrate Last Night of The Proms with English National Ballet

We celebrated Last Night of the Proms virtually with members of English National Ballet’s Philharmonic Orchestra, led by Music Director Gavin Sutherland.

We listened and danced along as members of the orchestra took us on a magical, musical journey. English National Ballet Philharmonic is made up of many of the country’s top musicians, and boasts considerable experience in all forms of music-making. With insights and anecdotes into what it takes to conduct an orchestra for a world-class ballet company, this special concert got our feet tapping, arms waving and hearts singing!

It was a wonderful experience, enjoyed by all.

Virtual Tour of the Scottish Design Galleries

We had a lovely time joining Becca Clark and James Wylie – members of V&A Dundee’s exhibitions team – as they took us on a virtual tour of the museum’s incredible Scottish Design Galleries.

We were introduced to the wide range of unique objects at the galleries from architecture and engineering, jewellery and textiles to theatre and their fascinating stories.

And we were able to learn more about the importance of all objects in telling the rich and varied history of Scottish design.

It was a lovely talk, enjoyed by all.

Birthday celebrations for our General Manager, Karen!

Everyone at Cookridge Court would like to wish our wonderful General Manager, Karen a Happy Birthday.

It’s been a lovely day celebrating Karen’s special day with staff and residents. A special thanks to Sinead, Head Chef for making the most beautiful, and delicious cake.

Good times and more great memories have been made today. We don’t do birthdays in half, that’s for sure!

Community Kindness

This week, Cookridge Court have received a beautiful card of kindness from a lovely lady in the community.

Resident Ambassador, Florence took great pleasure of opening it and reading to the other residents.

It is always a lovely, beautiful surprise to receive these cards of kindness. They always put a smile on our residents faces and make them feel so special & loved.

Bank Holiday Monday at Cookridge Court

A a wonderful Bank holiday Monday at Cookridge Court.

This afternoon, over a refreshing tipple, we have had a lovely reminisce music session listening to some of best music produced from the 1950’s, 1960’s & 1970’s.

It was lovely to listen to the residents story’s when a certain song came on, about going to the dance halls, courting their partners or listening to their record players at home.

We have had an excellent afternoon.
